Time off after surgery

Recommended Posts

I had surgery last Friday, and plan to return to work for half days next week. The port site is still tender, I'm tired and haven't yet made it through a day without falling asleep! Maybe during the week I'll get more stamina!

I had 2 weeks off and that worked out well for me. The first week I was pretty miserable and the 2nd was very tired so I was glad to have the 2 weeks off.

I had surgery in Mexico on a Wednesday. I got homeon Firday and went to work on Monday. Then I took Tuesday off and spent it in bed. I wish I would have taken more time off. I had a harrowing trip back and was really dehydrated. Otherwise I probably woud have done better.

It sounds like every one is different and there is really no way to tell how much time we need. I'm having my surgery on April 26th (Wednesday) and returning to work on May 2 (Tuesday) so I'm getting just one day short of a week. I teach also, but I can sit behind the desk if I need to. I'm just hoping that the time will be enough for me.

I am planning to have surgery on a Tuesday and fly home on a Saturday and back to work on Monday. I also work in an office so I can just have to get up and down from my desk. I was wondering if anyone sits at a desk with arm rest. Will the arm rest be up against the port?

I had my surgery on Monday and was off work for 2 weeks. The surgery itself was not a problem for me. It was the gas that settled in my neck and shoulder. It took 2 weeks to go away. I still had some pains occasionally for a month after surgery. (I have a desk job)

My port is positioned a few inches above my belly button so the arm rest on my chair is no where near it. Good luck with your surgery!!!:clap2:

I was banded on Friday and went back to work on Tuesday. The worst part was the bra rubbing the incisions. Everybody is different. I have a pretty high pain tolerance. This is how it went for me...I got home Friday after the surgery and slept ALOT. Saturday stayed at home but moved around. Sunday, I went to my daughter's softball game & enjoyed it. Monday, I took it easy at home but washed a load or 2 of clothes. Then on to work on Tuesday. My advice is to test your bras a day or two before you go back to work to see which one is the most comfortable. Other than that, I believe you will be fine.

I was banded on April 4th and will return to work on April 10th. I have had a wonderful recovery i.e. no gas, no nausea, sleeping well just as long as I keep the pain meds in my system.

I was banded on Fri 033106 and was back at work Tues 040406. I could have come in on Mon, but was too tired from a late flight in. I also have a desk job, so no lifting or moving around too much. I havent been experiencing much discomfort, just have to make sure I sit up straight as my poor posture seems to put a little discomfort on my port site. Good Luck!

I was banded on 4/4/06. I plan on going back to work on Monday, 4/10. I have a desk job, but do a lot of running around in my job. I too have had a pretty good recovery, but am very tired and my bra too is rubbing against an incision. I will go to work on Monday and maybe work limited hours... we'll see. I'll keep you posted.

Yvonne

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
