Hello everyone, I am 29 years old and currently 5'4" and 222lbs. I am going to the information session required before I can have my first consult with my doctor, on Tuesday. I am currently just under 40bmi but do have health problems such as asthma, gerd/hiatial hernia, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) and sleep apnea.

My question is how much down time is required after surgery? Like, when would I be able to return to work/school? I am a college student and only get 2 weeks between semester and really don't want to have to take a semester off because my school has a penalty for that (and I really can't afford it).

Thanks :)

Welcome, and congrats on your decision! The doctor told me only a week, i have a desk job. If you have a physical job, you might want to take a little bit more time. I am also a student, but it won't effect it too much, because my classes are online. I will only be in the hospital for 23 hours or less!

Congrats.

I went back to work in a week.

Lots of up and down with steps.

You can't carry lots of books.< /p>

The two weeks should be plenty of time.

I hate online classes but I think I might just do it for that one semester just to be sure I am ready to drive and sit in class for 3 hours 3-4 days a week.

Thank you all for your advice :)

2 weeks is plenty, you do not need to take online courses............I was back after a week and sit at a desk, you will be fine at school.

I was out for 2 weeks, but really could have used 3. For most people 1-2 weeks is plenty. My body just really hates surgery and doesn't recover as easily.

You should be fine. Just don't carry many books at one time.

I had surgery on a Tuesday and I was back at my (desk) job on Monday. I was tired for a few days, but glad to get out of the house. Good luck to you.

I had surgery on a Thursday and went back to work on the following Monday. I have a desk job. I was a little weak for the first week back at work but did ok, no lifting or bending at the waist.

this is going to be a problem lol. I tend to carry every book I have all at once, even if it's not needed for a couple of days.
