Ginger Ale After Bad Stomach Virus??

Recommended Posts

Has anyone drank ginger ale to settle your stomach since surgery? I was hospitalized for extreme nausea/vomiting last week. I'm back home and my stomach is still not one hundred percent. My doctor said I could resume soft-mushies upon release, but I didn't tolerate them well when I tried and have remained on a mostly liquid diet. I've been thinking about trying ginger ale with a LOT of ice because I'm still a little queasy. I wouldn't think this would be a problem if I'm not guzzling it or eating solid foods with it...thoughts?

Flat lemonade (pop?) worked when I was a kid. Just be sure to let it go flat. Hope you feel better soon.

Peppermint will settle your stomach, I still can not drink carbonation. I tried once and it makes me belch really bad. I have let a diet coke go flat a year ago and have since gave up. If still nauseated ask the doctor for some medication.

I don't like Ginger ale, but this weekend I got very queasy and out of desperation I drank some diet 7-up...to be honest...I didn' t care about the carbonation...it was either drink it or throw up (and we were at a wedding and I just didn't want to throw up). I felt so much better after just a couple sips. I only drank about 1/3 of the can--my son drank the rest. I know that carbonation is a concern....but I feel that a few sips doesn't hurt anything--especially if it means that you aren't going to throw up.

Thanks everyone...it got so bad I had to go to my surgeon for an unfill. I didn't even get a chance to try the ginger ale. I did try the peppermint though and that helped a little!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
