Pills/medications

Recommended Posts

If you take meds on a daily basis, how has it been with your band? Have you ever thrown them up?

I take around 7 vital meds in the morn. Three are time release. Doc said they are fine to sit in pouch, and will absorb the same way pretty much.

But I'm just wondering about real life experience. Thanks!

You just need to take them one at a time with small sips of liquids. I was nervous in the beginning, I used to just take my hand full of pills and pop them in my mouth and swallow. They dissolve and go down. I take most of my meds after Breakfast has settled about an hour or so later. I do use chewable vitamins, they are way to big for me to swallow. I may be able to but I was afraid they would get stuck. Good questions. the more you can learn pre surgery will only help you post surgery.

I was told I would have to crush them. I had my GP switch my normal meds to dissolve kind

I have been taking meds this week due to pneumonia. My pills can be cut in half and I really try to take them with lots of water...but I do get really nauseus. I have had to really go slowly and take 1/2 at a time and allow time between each. I have also thrown up after taking a dose of my antibotic...the pharmasist told me it was very strong and that I needed to be sure to eat with it..well I forgot to eat and threw up. Believe me...I have never done that again.

I cut the larger pills in half to make it a bit easier with lots of Water to swallow. The rest of my pills are vitamins/minerals which are all chewable.< /p>

I take glucophage/metformin and they are time release so I can't cut them in half or anything. They are massive too. :/

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
