Pus Pocket Underneath Surgery Scar?

Recommended Posts

I have what seems to be a little pocket of pus underneath my big port scar. One problem, I'm 4 months post op! Has anyone else had this? Should I call my doc? How should I treat it?

Do you see any stitches possibly poking out it? It's very thin and stiff, looks like fishing line. I'm just wondering if maybe an internal suture didn't dissolve and is now trying to work it's way up and out.

If you don't see any stitches trying to poke out, then yes, I'd definitely call your surgeon.

I don't see any stitches popping out, it could possibly be a suture that didn't dissolve correctly. I had a hematoma/seroma in this particular scar. It's just been bothersome since day 1. Thank you for your reply. I've been treating it with rubbing alcohol and will call my doctor's office on Monday.

Hydrogen Peroxide is better than alcohol. But you should contact your doctor. I used my cellphone camera and took a picture and sent it to my doctors office. This saved me an hour one way trip. My redness went away after awhile.

Mis73 you were right, it was an undissolved stitch trying to pop out! My doctor was so confused. They are supposed to dissolve on their own after 8 weeks and mine is well over that time limit. Anyways, she took it out and recommended I put a band aid over it with some neosporin for a couple days! Thank you! :)

I'm 2 weeks post-op. i called my dr Thursday and they called in another antibiotic but forgot to call me so I found out by calling the pharmacy 20 mins before i had to go to work. Are you not able to swallow your pill whole, or may be cut it in half instead of crushing. Also a tip from my nutritionist was if you find your band too tight in the morning take your pill later in the day or with a bit of yoghurt so it helps go through the band easier. My largest tablet is a Vitamin d with Calcium and about the size of a large finger nail and I can take it with no problems and I have very good restriction.

My surgeon said not to swallow pills over the size of a baby aspirin so I haven't tried. Last night i mixed it with yogurt and then sat down and read the information and im not supposed to have anything with calcium 2 hours before or after taking it. I might try taking it with my Protein shake tonight and see if i can swallow it whole.

I'm surprised he didn't prescribe you a liquid antibiotic! I wish you a speedy recovery! :) hang in there!

This happend to me. noticed it about a month after surgery. It was not my port incision though it was the small on my right side. It never drained or anything and i kept it clean and used neosporian and put a band aid on it for a while but no change it ended up healing that way! im 5 years post op and i have a little puffy scar on that side.

I was surprised when i went to the pharmacy and it was pills. I was able to swallow them whole. The incisions are still red but i see him monday so hopefully he will figure it out.

Thank you :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
