Pre Op Diet Or No Diet?

Recommended Posts

Who was told to go on a specific pre op diet and who wasn't? I don't understand why some have to be strict and some don't...I know that in the end we all have to shrink the size of our liver, but why do some people not have to diet as long or at all?

It seems most people were given a pre-op diet but my doctor told me no restrictions, "just keep doin' what you're doin' cause it's workin'," is what he said. I have lost 20 so far in 2 months. I know a few of his patients who did 2 weeks liquids so I guess it really depends on the patient. I still have another month before surgery and I hope to lose another 5 by then.

If you linger on this forum long enough you will see lots of similarities and differences in all kinds of things... The most common is the pre op diet dilemma . I don't know why the drs differ... But from what I have seen its best when you find a surgeon you trust and follow his orders to a tee.

I am on my 5th day of my liquid diet pre op.. from a 7 day one. I am hating shakes.. nauseous.. and burp a lot. I have about 3 Protein Shakes a day with some Vitarain and propel, throughout the day... and Water. When I come home from work Ill have a cream of chicken Soup 98% fat free and thats it. Is there anything else I can have? lol I am goin crazy and so hungry omg! But i'm trying! and haven't cheated at all.

I think it just varies based on what the dr. believes, his/her experience, etc. Whatever your doc says follow it and you'll hopefully have a great experience!

Funny... the nurse who instructed me about pre op eating told me the EXACT same thing!

I'm on my 2day of shakes I can't deal with it my head hurts and I woke up sick

Coming off of sugar is terrible, you will feel better by day 3 or 4. We've all been through it and at the end of it you will get to meet a new side of you, the strong determined side. Make sure you congratulate her!

I definitely agree the sugar is the culprit! It's the hardest thing to give up but you will feel so much better without it. One thing that concerns me is the type of diet my surgeon is recommending because it's largely "non-food" like sugar free Jello and sugar free fudgesicles. I plan on asking the nutritionist if I can have pureed vegetables, because the original plan is a 2 week liquid diet!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
