Do you "need" it? Most likely not, but it's a choice you have if you do want it. I know people with plication that love it. Then there's people like me. I don't have plication but I have lost almost 160 pounds in about 9 months.

It's really a matter of to each their own. You have to do what's best for you.

I think since it's still in the experimental phase I don't think every doctor is able to do it. Perhaps that's why your doctor didn't mention it.

having the plication (wont help you) lose any faster (or any) if you dont help the band/plication by changing eating habits and exercising some. just my thoughts.

I agree with Carolinagirl. It's still truly all about what you put into this band. I'm 14 months out, had 91 lbs to lose and I've lost 89. People who have more weight to lose will of course lose much more weight faster. My weight is coming off at a crawl these last few months because I don't have much weight to lose. It's frustrating but totally normal.

My eating habits have completely changed, I stay around 1200-1600 calories a day, I do cross-fit class 5-6 days a week, a cardio class on fridays and kickboxing on Sat's. I am tone, healthy and happy. Do I think this is because I had plication? No way..I think it's because I follow all the rules. Had I eaten and worked out like this pre-band, I would have lost the weight too. The difference this time is, I had a tool to help me stay more satiated. I'm one who has always been able to lose weight. I've never been able to keep it off. I keep hoping that the band along with the plication might be just the tool I need for MAINTAINING this, more so than LOSING it. If that makes sense.

My surgeon was one of the original surgeons in the clinical trials. I was lucky enough to be included.

Good luck!!

Krystle if you go on You Tube and search Dr Harold Cywes lapband w/ plication there is a great informative video. Insurance doesn't cover the procedure yet. However my doctor believes strongly in plication and does it free of charge. I had this done on 6/26 and very happy with the results I have lost 65 pounds and probably could have done better with more exercise. Nothing is a miracle and it all is about self control the lapband is a great tool but sense needs to out weigh desires like tonight I'm not hungry but I just want to chew on something lol but I'm not going to give in

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
