chelseyrion 26 Posted October 18, 2012 And I'm in pain! Back pain has become bearable but the pain at the port site is unbearable. Feels like I'm being stabbed in the chest when I breathe in. Pain meds are not working that well. Any suggestions?
PattyGirl66 1,243 Posted October 18, 2012 Hi Chelsey, Please keep in mind this is temporary what you are going through. If you can take small walks around your home during the day, walking eliviates not only gas but pain. Keep up with your pain meds if its 'unbareable'. Using a heating pad can help (do NOT put the heating pad on your belly). If you have someone who can rub your back would help so much as well. Do breathing exercises as well!!! Hang in there hon! chelseyrion 26 Posted October 18, 2012 Ugh...hearing pad over port site is the only relief im getting. Walking all night and it really did nothing for the pain. I had a c section a couple years ago and I was far more comfortable then than I am now. Thanks for the encouragement! I'm hanging in there!
Shira 20 Posted October 18, 2012 Not sure what pain meds you are on but maybe you can get something stronger from the Dr? This too shall pass... it will take a few days but just try to rest and walk around and drink Water to keep yourself hydrated. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. By next week this will hopefully be a distant memory!
chelseyrion 26 Posted October 18, 2012 Thanks guys....I've added Motrin for pain which is helping. Alternating hot and cold packs and was able to get two tablespoons of Jello down. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier.
Maddysgram 6,159 Posted October 18, 2012 Hi Chelsey, I'm 3 days out and it will get better. Dr told me first 48hrs would be the worst as far as swelling goes and he was right. Keep sipping & walking. Not sure if you should put heat on incisions. Best wishes!
chelseyrion 26 Posted October 18, 2012 Thanks Maddy! The PA told me its ok to alternate hot and cold on the incision. Just try to keep it dry...
Maddysgram 6,159 Posted October 18, 2012 Thanks Maddy! The PA told me its ok to alternate hot and cold on the incision. Just try to keep it dry... That just goes to show how different Drs are. My Dr said heating pad ok on shoulder & back, but possible nerve damage near incision could lead to burning without you knowing it. Glad I'm not having trouble with incisions. Hope yours feel better soon!
chelseyrion 26 Posted October 19, 2012 I've also started taking arnica pills which have helped with the pain greatly. Now working out the gas pain. My belly feels so full now I understand the whole gas pain thing!
chelseyrion 26 Posted October 19, 2012 Ok three days out and I'm feeling MUCH better. Cutting down on the pain meds and actually drank a half cup of broth and two tbsp of Jello. Hoping to feel good enough for the last farmers market of the year on Sunday 1 Shira reacted to this
