1 More Day So Why Am I Depressed?

Recommended Posts

I am one day away from surgery. I have been so excited for the past few weeks. Now that is so close

why am I so depressed. Woke up this morning feeling awful emotionally.

Is this normal?

This is definitely normal. I think it is the reality coming together of what you are about to undergo. I was very excited and then when it became the reality of undergoing surgery and even just thinking about all the life changes and losing my best friend (unhealthy eating habits) it was a bit nerve wracking or unsettling. It hit me that my whole life was about to change, plus even though I wasn't scared about the surgery, I wasn't looking forward to the actual physical aspects of going through it or emotional. I knew I made the right decision and kept focused on why I did it. Now, almost 3 months out and 45+ lbs down, I don't regret it for one second.

So yes, I feel it is quite normal. Just try to think about the positives that will come out of this and all the new adventures you have to look forward to.

Best wishes to you for a speedy and easy recovery! Hugs!!

I am sure its totally normal. I am 7 days from surgery and I am already getting nervous and having some doubts on how I will do. For me its realizing that this is it, no more donuts, pop tarts, eating junk at night... But then I think to myself..Are you really happy like this? Do I want to go another summer being fat? Then I seem to get my head back in the game. I wish you all the best!! Let us know how it goes!!

Thanks a new dawn and kittylove. That is just what I needed to hear. It is a huge step I am taking and if I could only wrap my head around the fact that I will be able to eat - just smaller portions - then I should be ok.

My mind thinks I will never eat again. I guess it is because I have been on my liquid diet for 2 weeks and I am craving food.

I weighed 432 pounds when I had surgery.... obviously, my life was food. I was sooooo afraid how I was going to deal with it. For me, it was no where near as hard as I thought it would be. I don't miss anything, honestly. I mean, every now and then I still eat a cookie or have a slice of pizza. But I don't miss stuffing my face. If I go out to eat, it feels the same as it always did. I get full and satisfied on so much less food and it doesn't really seem any different.

It's normal, because it is a big life change. But you won't believe how amazing you are going to feel with each pound you lose.

Yeah!!!! Excited for you. Best of Luck tomorrow!

Teresa

Isn't it weird what kind of hold food has on us? I mean for me... as a child it was both a reward and punishment. If I did good, then i got a treat.... If i did something bad... well it was no treat. I learned all my eating habits at an early age. Fast forward to age 35 and my weight problem is a result of all that. Of course, I learned emotional eating, boredom, etc along the way. Now here I am 2.5 weeks from surgery day and I have tons of doubts. I keep telling myself if I'm ever going to be successful, these are the things I have to CHANGE. I have to learn a new relationship with food. I want a healthy relationship with food. I just keep telling myself the end result will be well worth the change and the hard work required. I mean, I compromise in every other aspect of my life, why not here too... Success requires change and compromise.

I understand completely how you're feeling!

You're going to do great! You're going to look and feel amazing! Good luck tomorrow!!

some might be depressed some wont, but dont back out because you think youre not going eat again. you'll eat , just less food and you'll want to make healthier choices because you will start seeing the weight fall off ! when your pants start sagging off your rear end, suddenly all those Cookies wont look so good ! i was banded 10 months ago at 225 lbs. tired all the time joints hurt , sleep apnea etc. yada yada. now im 167, lots more energy, swim and run (!) no sleep apnea and feel so much better ! yes i still have a treat everyday, a cookie or piece of chocolate, but i eat much healthier because 1. i can only eat so much and try to get my Protein and fruit in first, and 2. a little sweet goes a long ways for me now.3. i love the results ! i wore old lady frumpy size 18-1x to much cuter slim size14, and i can still eat 95% of the foods i ate before ! So hang in there, and dont give up, im very happy being banded because it literally gave me my life back ! Good luck !

I found I got rid of my depression b4 surgery by getting prepared. I emptyed my hpuse of harmful food so I had no where quick to go for it, then I replaced it with food and drinks I could have for the next 2wks. I got my gasx, laxitive, and heating pad all set up in my favorite chair. I also got a new night gown to feel special the nex day.

I also set my self up on fitness pal and tracked my eating even the day b4 so I could kind of learn it. So get behind your success and known this is going to fun to to becoming the real you. Keep posting and go to chat room several times a day.

I hardest part for me is keeping MY food and paln the priority of the mntue, hour, day, and weekly. The food tracker is my life line dayly and I am now having trouble getting enought food in boy is that a shocker.

I have lost 18 lbs in the 8 weeks after banding you will also.

I went line dancing last night and ate right durning the day with saving some cls just incase I ended up having 3 FF and that got rid of my want for a whole bssket and lated I have 1in x 1 in peiece of coffee cake and i still didnt get all my 1,000 cals in but I go my carvings in and now a taste does it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
