Anyone else have a persistent headache post surgery? I'm three days post surgery, some incision pain and very mild gas pain. My headache keeps coming back. I've had one cop of coffee a day, to to have caffeine withdrawal, and have had at least 60 ounces of Water. I've not been hungry so have had 600-800 calories per day.

Any suggestions? I'll call the doctor's office later but just wanted to see if anyone had the same experience.

I'm sure it's from a lack adequate nutrition and all drugs given to you at the hospital. I had a headache the first 2 weeks after surgery. Once I got all the drugs out of me and started getting some better nutrition, they did finally go away.

Drink lots of Water, it will help flush all that stuff out of your system faster. Also, be sure you are taking a good Multivitamin and are using a quality Protein Shake.

Also- are you still on prescription painkillers? As odd as it sounds, those can actually cause headaches in some people too.

Best wishes and feel better.

Thank you very much for the quick response. It is reassuring to know this isn't unusual. I'm using the pure premium Protein Shake with 30 grams of Protein. I am still on prescription painkiller, I had no idea it could also cause headaches. I'll try regular liquid Tylenol later today. Great ideas.

I think Missy covered all the bases. :) Definitely get your fluids in to help flush your body. Some people react that way from the meds and/or anesthesia.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
