Surgery Tomorrow :)

Recommended Posts

I was scheduled on Tuesday to get the gastric sleeve. I started freaking out the night before and was not mentally able to go in. I called and asked if I could get lap band instead so tomorrow is the big day. Really looking forward to it. I think the lap band is right for me.

I am really looking forward to this. Little nervous. I never had any kind of surgery. But I feel better knowing they are not taking out 85% of my stomach. I am just thankful my insurance let me do this last minute. Gotta be at the hospital tomorrow at 9:30. This clear liquid diet is miserable! Cant wait to become more active and learning better nutrition.

I had a hard time choosing between the sleeve and the band.. and I choose the band as well! I just find it more comforting that this can be reversed if need be, and you get fills through the year to make sure you keep on track with some restriction. I wish and will pray for you a speedy recovery!! I get mine on monday morning 8am!! Just remember this will all be worth it in the end. ;)

Good luck on your surgery Destynee1! I was on the verticalsleevetalk.com site and the night I tripped out and was like "Im getting lapband instead" I got so many negative comments it just made me want to get this and prove that I can lose weight. I wish you the best! Let me know how you do Monday! Ill be thinking about you!!!

Thank you!! and I will! and people will bad talk every surgery! My mother's best friend had the sleeve done, and has had it for a year now, and has lost about 40lbs which isn't much at all, all these things are tools it's the person who will make it successful.. she would test how much she can eat.. and defeats the whole purpose. You can go back there and prove them all wrong!! infact I will go with ya! and be like Yaaaaaah!! haha!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
