Sick And Tired Of People Being Rude/discouraging

Recommended Posts

First of all I'm going to say congratulations on your weightloss so far, you've done fantastic.

I'm sorry too you don't have that encouraging support from your mum, it hurts, our mums are so important to us and we should always expect support no matter what, unfortunately not all mums are like that. For the longest time, pretty much my whole life, I would hurt so much when I'd get negativity from the people I loved most. I'm one of those people that always put everyone before me and made them happy even if I wasn't. This last year I've changed so much, not only because of my band but because I finally reached my limit with selfish, negative people and I have put ME first. I have been so unhappy for so long and it's time for me to make myself happy. I've developed a thicker skin and removed myself from the negative people, their loss because I always came through for them, this includes my mother and my sister. I've finally found something that is working for me regarding loosing weight and I gave a grin ear to ear everyday, my confidence levels have soared. If my mum asks me how I'm going, I just say really well and smile. If she says something negative I ignore it, I'm not letting anyone or anything drag me down again. My weightloss is my business and my surgeons business, period. If anyone in my life is not happy with it, tough I don't care!

So what I'm saying is stand tall, be proud if your achievements no matter how big or small and don't let anyone discourage you with your weightloss. Loosing weight with the lapband can be a slow process but in the end all those little losses add up.

When youre feeling alone and discouraged come to us, we are all in the same journey and we will encourage you and cheer you on.

To have not done something about your weightloss if you weren't happy would have been a negative, to loose the weight no matter How you are doing it and no matter how fast or slow it's coming off is a positive.

Smile you've done fantastic so far!!!

I had the surgery 9/12 and I have lost 30 pounds. My family is supportive but I have a few people I wish did not know. I think some people get jealous and the only way to make them self feel better is to cut you down. You are doing great!

I've been banded since March 2009. I lost over 80 lbs and you know I've had some of the most negative comments ever, going from a size 16/18 to a 0/2. When I got banded I knew the support for my decision would lay squarely on me and any thing else was a plus. My husband and children are the only ones who know I'm banded. Why because like many of you, my extended family and friends, which should be supportive, were not. :-(.

I'm happy that I made the decision and battle everyday to remain ; this truth in and of itself keeps me focused on me and not concerned about what others are saying. I really love my family and friends but I loved my life more and my health was what mattered.

Stay encouraged and don't look for others accolades because they won't wholeheartedly come as you might think. Do what you are doing for you and remember why you are doing it.

Blessing to you all. MizMizKay

i guess from now on I will NOT share any weight loss with her. No matter how much she begs/screams/yells at me. I'm so done with this

That sounds like the smart thing to do. It is unfortunate we all have friends and family who are unsupportive. I try to remember that they are the way they are because of them....not because of anything I did. We cannot pick our relatives but we can control the way they interact in our lives. You mother is insecure, jealous or resentful of you for some reason. That would motivate me more actually... But in the meantime I would politely say... Mom... I got this. I think its best if we do not discuss my journey. You will just have to see the results.

Good Luck

you are doing great! And 24 lbs in 2 months is nothing for the critics to complain about. Many people have misconceptions about lapband; they think its gastric bypass!

By the way, I opened this because i thought you were upset by the people on here who criticize others. I am glad to find that it was not! Best wishes and keep up the great work!!!Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
