Will I Need The Seat Belt Extender?

Recommended Posts

Well, I had to take a business trip back in August and I posted about being disappointed that I still needed the seatbelt extender. At that point, I was down 42 lbs but still needed the extender although it was very close. I am flying again on 10/28 and at this point am down another 18 lbs for a total of 60 lbs. Woot! Woot! . Maybe this is it! Maybe I won't need the extender this time. We shall see. I will let you know. :P

I remember when I flew the first time not needing the extender... I was about 1/2 way... It was the BEST feeling in the world.

I flew 2 weeks ago for work and not only didnt I need the extender I was able to cross my legs AND put the tray table down.... AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE SEAT!! It was awesome.

I actually have to fly soon too and am seriously nervous about it. So, I researched it.

Airplane seat belts are typically 47 inches long. So, if you sit on a chair and measure across your lap, you'll know. If it's less than 47 inches from one side of the chair, up over and across your lap, then down to the other side, then you won't need one.

I'll keep my fingers crossed neither of us need one :)

P.S.- I'm also nervous about the airplane seat width and fitting there too. Ugh

All I can say is keep it up. I have used the extender on some flights and to be honest I don't feel that embarrassed, guess I'm used to it.

I haven't had the surgery yet, but will next year Jan when my new medical aid kicks in.

I long to not have to ever ask for it again. Oh and I'd love to cross my legs, even in a normal seat at home or even just on the floor.

Keep it up. I cannot wait for my band.

Oh my goodness! So many NSV's in one situation! I would probably be doing some sort of crazy happy dance on the plane and get thrown off for erratic behavior. lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
