Help!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Got a phone call last night. I was approved, which should be exciting news except there are a lot of tricks to this. Since my doctors have been prolonging things, my insurance is up on my birthday October 31. When i turn 23, This is the COMPLETE cut off date for Tricare. They are trying for surgery the 23rd. With no pre opt diet. Is this going to work? And if it does..... I won't have insurance until November after the surgery. Is this a bad idea? Should I just forget having the surgery? But if I don't have it, that's 8 months that I waisted away planning for this day. I'm so confused and alone right now!!!! I'm going crazy!! Not to mention, I have NO MORE TIME OFF left at work. Could I go back to work during recovery? I only work 4- 5 hours a day during the week as a bank teller.

Personally, I wouldn't deal with the 'what if' stresses of not having insurance after Oct. You also need to figure out how much your fills and appointments are going to cost you if you don't have insurance. You never know what could happen that you might need it. Yes you can probably get it without a pre op, that is your surgeons decision. I could have never have gone back to work after surgery and if you read here most need at least 5-7 days off. You don't want to be stressed out about insurance, having to work and recovery. It is a choice between you and your surgeon, but in my opinion, you are not setting yourself up for a successful recovery. So sorry you have been given the runaround.

This it true, I guess I'm just more disappointed than anything. I'm going to see what the doctor suggests. Although I will have insurance again in November open enrollment at my job

Standing up as a teller would make it really hard. Can you call in sick or is it a financial question not to just call in.

I had surgery 10/5 and went back to work 10/8 but I have a desk job and I had no pain after day 2. You won't know until after you have surgery how you'll feel.

A frank talk with your surgeons office about the post op care and cost would be a good thing at this point.

It's a real dilemma, I feel for you. I don't think I'd let this opportunity pass me by but you know your finances and job situation better. You don't want to start your new journey stressed out either!

Yes... You're right, I'm going to talk to my surgeon before anything and try to come up with a plan. This is something that I really want in life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
