Don't have a mandatory pre o diet so I am trying to go low carb to lose se before surgery and get used to a lot of Protein. Anyone else trying low carb? I am aiming for under 40 per day but it feels like I am eating a lot of greasy food. How the heck can that work?

I was given a low almost no fat diet of 1000 cal. a day..the idea is to shrink your liver..i also think its to get used to healthier low fat living..eating fatty meats n fried foods I dont think is good before surgery..but follow your doctors orders..i had a couple meetings with a dietician as part of pre op and was given a pre op plan and 6 Stages of post op drinking/eating plans

My Dr gave me a couple pages from sugar busters, which has totally confused me. I have no idea what to eat. I've been looking for high Protein low/no sugar but I'm afraid I'm going to gain weight. My surgery is November 15. I don't know anyone who has had Lap Band to give me advice.

Hi Guys!

My surgery is also on Nov 15th so I am 5 days into my Pre-Op Diet!

I am doing a High Protein, Low Carb, Low Calorie diet for 2xweeks. This is typically:

Optifast shake for Breakfast

chicken broth with broccoli and spinach lunch

Green Veg and 1x small lean piece of meat (prawns/chicken/tuna)

I can have broth, tea, zero calorie Fluid and green veg to fill any hunger gaps!

I think the most important hung is to get in your Water, this flushes out the liver nicely.

So far I have lost just over 4kg (I think that's 8.8 pounds) and it got easy to follow after day 2.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Ash

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
