Told To Stop Jogging

Recommended Posts

I was told to stop jogging, that it was causing me to stop my weight loss. I was told they would tell me when I could jog, I could walk only and not too fast. I was o disheartened and do not want to go back to True Results office. I let her know that I felt great and saw a difference in my clothes and my muscle tone and was still told to stop. Their studies indicate this is a shock o my system and cursing my body to hold onto calories. I had stopped going for a year and went back and never heard this before. Is this true.

She is the only one I see to give me my fills and critiques my slow weight loss. She isn't very helpful in this area and says that is what the latest research says. I guess I could lie about my exercising. I have lost about 80 lbs in 2 years and dropped from size 24 to 14. I am happy with my progress but she says it should be more and tht I can only eat a 1/2 cup serving for each meal and limit my walking to 5 days a week, I was at 7 days a week and jogging. I also think this is not right. Seems kind of personal but don't want to read into it. The other woman I saw said no high impact exercise for the same reason and dropped me to 5 days a week. So this is the culture there.

I agree, that makes zero sense.

Basic math- if you're burning more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. Jogging may build leg muscle but it also burns a lot of calories. It could cause a temporary plateau on the scale due to building muscle but as you pointed out, even then you're still losing inches.

I'm curious who told you that? A doctor? Nurse? Whoever it was either totally clueless or seems to be under the illusion temporary plateaus due to exercise is a bad thing. Either way, I'd talk to someone that isn't completely lacking common sense.

You're very smart to question it. Best wishes to you.

These are PA's. all new staff. No one sees dr again, only for 1 year follow up. So those are the only two folks I see. Honestly makes me not want to go back.

Perhaps you could find a different doctor near you to take over your care? Honestly, I wouldn't want to go somewhere I never saw a doctor only PA's. The crap information you're getting from them is a perfect example why.

It is coming off slowly, as I was filled too much and caused a dilated esophagus. I had to have Fluid let out and slowly replaced, currently at 6.5 cc and at my sweet spot. I see the difference in my clothes, I was so happy to be able to get into large and x large clothes, as that was not an option before. I stopped focusing on the scale, but this office doesn't measure me so they don't even know the inches I've lost. I feel good, I have energy I hadn't felt in years. I have to tell myself I didn't get here over night and am so much happier with he progress I have made. Without the surgery I would still be a size 24. With PCOS nothing worked except for the surgery, I wish the dr' s office shared my joy but they don't. I will seek a new office soon to stay on track. Thanks for the supportive words.

God, its truly scary what idiots are in charge of some programs. This is probably the biggest load of rubbish I've read on here in seven years - and there's been some whoppers. Stop exercising to lose more weight? I dont think so!

I would ignore that advice - and lie about it if needs be.

i was just going thru some post and came across yours and the replies. My office has actually told me to get more cardio type exercise. As one post said.......burn more than you take in??????simple math. I have lost 70+or- a pound or 2. I havent really exercised at all. I have loose skin now that i dont think I would have had if I had started working out earlier. Muscle burns off fat. Muscle is also smaller in area. Yea it may not look on the scale like a loss. I f your office cant understand that they need a few more classes in nutrition and excersise . Also most of the Lap Band procedures are followed for ever.Thats part of the package. I assume you had surgery here in US since you go to an office for f/u. You should see a doctor atleast a few times' PA's are okay sometimes maybe better, they will spend more time with you. How often do you get fills?? Does a doctor do that for you?. I have also had the esophageal spams just latelyas a matter of fact. It finnally stopped after a few hours. Not something you want to happen BELIEVE ME!!! So I say jog....walk ...run. What ever makes you feel good.

I never see the dr, I was going once a month. Then stopped for a period due to heavy travel and when I went back there was a whole new staff. The two PA's are all one sees for fills or follow ups. They both advise this and when I question it they say it is based on the latest research and that it sounds counter productive but it is totally sane. I don't buy it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
