Filled To The Max??

Recommended Posts

I have a 14 cc band and probably over 11 cc's in it and still not quite to the restriction I want. I don't want to be too tight but I still get hungry after 2-3 hours. I'm doing well overall, have lost 80 lbs, still 70 more to go.

What if I get to 14 cc's and still no restriction?? What then?? Anyone have this happen? I just had a fill a week ago, and if anything I have even a little less restriction. I have been eating around the band, am working on that. When I go back in a month I'll ask the PA, and I may even move my appt up a week so I don't get too far out of hand.

Any insight??

I really wouldn't worry about it. For starters, you have a bigger band, so it's going to take a bit more to have adequate Fluid. The other thing is, you'd be amazed how much the smallest of fills can make a huge difference when you're close to the Green Zone. I'm not kidding, even as little as .2cc can be the difference between being in the Green Zone and being too tight. With as close as you are to being in the Green Zone, I'd be wiling to bet it takes very little to get you there.

You'll do great :)

I'm not sure if this will help answer your questions or not . . . . but, I have an AP Large Lap Band that will hold up to 14 cc's. I had sugery on 04-09-12. I currently have 7 cc's in my band with NO restriction. I asked my doctor at my last fill what happens when I get to 14 cc's. He said that NEVER happens. He also said from this point forward he will only add 1/2 cc at a time. . . desperately seeking the ever ellusive "Green Zone"

I am three years post op and I get hungry. Hunger is the bodies natural response to the need of food. If your looking for never being hungry I dont think that will happen. You have to work with some of this yourself. If you're still hungry every two to three hours then maybe your not really hungry. If you are really hungry then maybe you're eating the wrong things to keep you full. I still get hungry even at three years post op and no I am never going to be filled up because that is the problem. Everyone is in a hurry to get filled up then what happens? You have nothing to work with. Try to control some of your hunger yourself. Take some hoodia. It works wonders. You can't depend solely on the band to completely take away your hunger.

Hi Cheryl- yes, I do think I'm in a "eating the wrong thing" phase. I appreciate your words of advice. I know I"ll still get hungry, I'm not looking to never be hungry. I have been successful, I guess I just need some support, ya know? :)

I will also look into the hoodia- what does that do?

Missy- thanks for your words of encouragement. I know they're doing pretty small fills now, as you say, a little goes a long way!

Soccer- My doctor was pretty aggressive with fills, but now has slowed down. I think I felt "restriction" of some sort around 10.5 cc's, but has a LOT of success before that anyways with just following the rules. You'll get there, just like I will.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the support I get from everyone here on this forum.

Nicki

Hoodia tricks your brain in to thinking you're full. It works very well. I don't know about the other brands they have but I buy mine at GNC its called Hoodia super thin. I take it 30 minutes before I eat. It takes about a week to work but it works great. I take it before Breakfast and lunch and half the time I dont even want dinner. :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
