My instructions say no hot tub or pool for 6 weeks.

4-6 week, until your wounds are healed and no scabs.

Like they said not for 4 - 6 weeks, you need to heal first. You can stick you legs in, just can't submerge your abdominal area. Also, be aware that once you do get back in - the hot tub will make you feel tighter, so don't get out and expect to eat soon after.

Like everyone else has said, you have to wait until your incisions have healed. There is such a great risk for infection if you go in the hot tub before they are fully closed and healed. Even with scabbing, if the scabs are new, sometimes the Water in the hot tub can soften them and cause them to slough off which occasionally can leave the wound susceptible to infection again. I specifically asked this question of my surgeon as I have a jacuzzi in my bathroom and like you, couldn't wait to get in it! It really does alleviate aches and pains, but not worth it until you are fully healed.

My Dr said I could bath and shower right away. I was allowed to get in the swimming pool or hot tub after one week.

There is nothing wrong with calling your Dr to ask. :) Thats what you are paying him for.

Just when ya think the docs are all on the same page! LOL! Thanks Floridays for reminding us that every doc has their own rules and advice. I agree with her that it is probably best if you just call and ask how your doctor feels about it. As long as you follow your doc's recommendations, you can't go wrong. Good luck!

Yes the longer you are on this forum the more you realize you need to listen and follow your OWN Dr's advice. But I do like it that I can see lots of view points and have even taken some to my Dr over the last 23 months to get his input. He will say... Susan are you reading on the internet again? LOL

Listen, you have to ask "your" surgeon.... I was surprised to find out right after surgery I was able to go into a swimming pool in just a week.

Lucky you to be able to swim so soon! I just noticed your surgery date in July, and you've already lost 71 pounds! That's really impressive. Good job!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
