I'm Eating Normal???

Recommended Posts

I was banded 8-1-12. Had my 1 st fill on 9-17-12. Now I feel like I can eat more then before my 1st fill. I have no restrictions what so ever . Is this normal? The good news I have not gain. But I feel like a failure b/c I can eat anything. :(

you are not a failure.

AFter surgery the entire stomach and new pouch and opening is swollen. That takes about 6weeks to go down. You just stik to your docotrs recomendations for diet and you will be fine.

The band isn't supposed to stop you from eating anything. It's not supposed to restrict how much or what you are eating.

It is supposed to help you be satisfied, meaning no longer physically hungry, on less food for longer amounts of time.

It's very likely you'll need multiple fills before you have your hunger satisfied, so don't worry, it's normal not to have that from your band just yet.

I find that false information.. I can't eat more than a half cup of food or I get sick throw up and feel horrible from eating way to much, so yes the band does limit portions maybe not for all but for some.. It limits the food I can eat as I have a whole list of food I can't eat or I again get sick and throw up.. If it didn't limit food intake why would people get it?? They don't get it to just feel satisfied, I know that's not why I got it..

You may need more fills to get to the green zone. I was lucky and hit the green zone right after surgery and with only 4cc in my band but again every one is different.. I wish you luck and just remember its a life style change and you need to talk to your surgeon about what's going on..

It is very true information, here's some reading that will help educate you: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

If you choose to have your band so tight you can't eat, that's your choice, however that isn't what the band was meant to do.

My bands far from tight. I have 4cc in my band I eat a half cup of food I'm full for five hours that doesn't mean my band is to tight if it was I'm sure my Dr would be taking Fluid out.. If I was told all the band does is satisfy you and toot can eat as much as you want I wouldn't of been banded. It definitely does restrict your portion sizes... I've learned not to argue with the lapband knw it alls who have the same answer on every response they make.. To each there own. My bands working I'm losing weight, I've lost half what I need to lose in 7 weeks with eating healthy eating less exercising six days a week and it was 20 grand well spent to get my health and rockin hot body back ;)

Love it.. I'm not a online forum clique kind of person and I'll speak my mind and I don't care if its not what the cliques want to hear as this forum has a clique anyone can point out!! same answers on every post no matter what the question (chew chew, no more than a cup of food, satisfy, it isn't no restrict, call your Dr or my favorite follow your Dr instructions no solids at all) pretty sure we all know that we did have the same surgery as you!!

It's not false information just because it doesn't line up with your personal experience up until now.

The band indirectly limits food intake by doing what Missy explained. How it works (in more detail) is by pressing against the vagus nerves in the top of your stomach. The vagus nerves are responsible (among other things) for exchanging satiety messages with your brain so that you experience early and prolonged satiety after eating a small amount of food. Also, when you ingest solid food (like animal Protein, veggies, fruits), the food also activates the vagus nerves. So the net effect is that you eat less and feel less hungry and/or hungry less often.

The patient Lap-Band instructions developed by Allergan years ago did explain that the band restricts how much you can eat. According to my Allergan rep, those instructions are being revised because clinical evidence shows that in the longterm, relying on eating problems (like PB'ing, puking, sliming, etc.) to tell you when to stop eating is a bad idea because it can lead to complications like esophageal or stomach dilation and band slippage.

Speaking from 5 years experience on several online WLS forums, people who appear to be part of a clique because they are repeating the same information over and over again are doing so because they're sharing information they got from their surgeon, not because they belong to a clique and have all sworn to sing the same hymn every time they respond to a forum post. Information that doesn't vary from one surgeon to the next tends to indicate a trend in bariatric surgeon's beliefs and practices that didn't originate in the imagination of an LBT member.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
