Hi all. I'm scheduled for the lap band at the end if the month. I'm very excited but the pre-op diet is killing me and these headaches are unbearable! Is this normal?

I am also scheduled for surgery at the end of this month. I started my liquid diet today. Yuck. I woke up with a headache but it has not gone away all day. I took some tylenol but that hasn't helped. I'm sure it will go away. I bought this high Protein mix to drink and it is horrible! I am suppose to have 4 a day and I have trouble choking one down.

Good luck. Hopefully an experienced bandster will give us suggestions about the headaches.

I started adding fat-free, sugar-free pudding to my shakes and they taste much better.

It's the caffeine and sugar withdrawals. Sorry, you will feel that for about 3 or 4 days. It does get better though. Just try to get plenty of Water in. I found that the more elaborate you made the process of making your Protein Shakes the better.. Add some fruit, put it in a fancy glass.. Heck, put a dang umbrella in it!!! Your on your way to better things!!! CELEBRATE!

Yes on the headaches. You have stopped many ingridients quickly and your body is trying to change. I drank lots of Water (SIP water) and used SF popsicles when I needed. I usually stick my Protein shakes in the freezer for 45 minutes to get it like a smoothie. Its like eating ice cream.

Best wishes and keep the faith. Band day will be around the corner and your new journey will officially begin.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
