Lemon & Water

Recommended Posts

I remember when I was in my 20's stepping off of a bus, an elderly woman walked right up to me and said "drink warm Water first thing in the moring and put a fresh lemon in it every day"... I really had no clue what she was talking about, in fact I just chalked it up to another crazy lady, LOL.

Soooo, for the past 4 days I have been drining a lot of Lemon & Water. In the morning warm, and during the day ice cold. I really am enjoying the flavor in my plain water and the way its making me feel..

My research found 10 Reasons why we should drink Lemon & Water (in the morning): The water added to the lemon juice should be lukewarm, or hot lemon water:

1. Boosts your immune system: Lemons are high in Vitamin C, which is great for fighting colds. They’re high in potassium, which stimulates brain and nerve function. Potassium also helps control blood pressure.

2. Balances pH: Drink lemon water everyday and you’ll reduce your body’s overall acidity. Lemon is one of the most alkaline foods around. Yes, lemon has citric acid but it does not create acidity in the body once metabolized.

3. Helps with weight loss: Lemons are high in pectin Fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster.

4. Aids digestion: Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials. It encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid that required for digestion. Efficient digestion reduces heartburn and Constipation.< /span>

5. Is a diuretic: Lemons increase the rate of urination in the body, which helps purify it. Toxins are, therefore, released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy.

6. Clears skin: The Vitamin C component helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear as well. It can actually be applied directly to scars to help reduce their appearance.

7. Freshens breath: Not only this, but it can help relieve tooth pain and gingivitis. The citric acid can erode tooth enamel, so you should monitor this. I admit, I’m slightly worried about it.

8. Relieves respiratory problems: Warm lemon water helps get rid of chest infections and halt those pesky coughs. It’s thought to be helpful to people with asthma and allergies too.

9. Keeps you zen: Vitamin C is one of the first things depleted when you subject your mind and body to stress. As mentioned previously, lemons are chock full of Vitamin C.

10. Helps kick the coffee habit: After I have a glass of hot lemon water, I actually don’t crave coffee in the morning. This is weird, I can’t explain it, but I’ll take it.

Interesting.... thanks for the info. As for the erroding enamel on your teeth I think you would have to be drinking or eating alot of lemons for that to happen.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing this.

1. If I use lemon juice, not actual lemons, how much would I add to a 12 oz glass of Water?

2. Doing this all day, every day...I am concerned about the enamel erosion. Should I be?

3. I'm all for drinking lemon Water all day instead of Crystal Light, like I do now. IF I get good answers to my 2 questions. :)

Hi Polly,

I haven't used any lemon juices, however I think about 1 tsp. to a 8 ounce glass wold be sufficient. Only because i squeezed one of my lemon wedges into a teaspoon and that is what I got, - hope that was helpful!

Ya know, I am not concerned about the tooth enamel because i am not eating the lemon directly onto my teeht, and like Floridays said we would have to be eating many many lemons daily. I am not concerned now.

Thanks PattyGirl!

I'm going to try this Lemon Water idea. I used to "spike" my Water with Lime, do you think that would give the same benefits?

BTW, that's creepy that some strange lady would be by your bus stop giving you this kind of advice! But she must have been sent to you somehow. ;)

You are what's called a Soul Magnet.

Striking it "rich" could mean, rich in character, rich with flavor, etc. But for your sake, I hope you do hit the jackpot someday!

And no more creepy strangers, you. :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
