Medical Id Bracelet

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here wear a medical ID Bracelet? The "Bandwagon" book says that although they are a pretty good idea, the cuter ones look too much like regular jewelry and so the medics might miss it anywys. It also says that the only real pertinant info is the no nsaids, and no blind tube which in life or limb situations are going to happen regardless. Just curious...thanks for your help =)

I have a Road ID. Nicer than the regular medical alert but still obvious enough.

I was an EMT for 17 years. I can't imagine that knowing someone had lapband by way of a medical alert piece of jewelry would have made a difference in patient care. If you are unconscious they can't give you NSAIDs anyhow and if you awake you tell the healthcare providers your history. As for the no blind tube. Like you said if it needs done its gonna happen.

It's a medical tag made for athletes. You can have it as a Bracelet, shoe tag or necklace I think. I got it originally for my son who was training for a tri. Sending him out on a long ride alone was scary. If he had an accident no one would know who he was. RoadId.com

That's what I was thinking. I did google the ROAD ID bands and I see how important they could be. Eventually post-band I would like to maybe do a 5K or something so maybe I'll invest in one just to have around in case I ever go walking or jogging on my own....I'm still a FAR CRY from that stage though LOL.

Thanks everyone!

NSAIDs lay in your stomach and don't dissolve properly can actually cause ulcerations to the inside of your stomach

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
