Battle With Myself

Recommended Posts

So I'm pretty sure I know what the answer is to my question, but I guess I need to hear it from others who have possibly experienced this...

I got my 4th fill 3 weeks ago. They put in 0.5cc. Since that day I've had a love/hate relationship with my band. Some days are perfect. I eat my 1 cup of food, it goes down & stays down. The next day I can eat the exact same foods, the same amount, at the same pace & 2 bites in, it's stuck & comes right back up. Then because of the irritation from the PB I get stuck the rest of the day. This happens about 2-3 times a week. The rest of the time I have no problems. I am scheduled for my next appt on Wednesday. I know I don't need a fill, but the reasonable side of me says get an unfill...the overweight side of me says stick it out. I'm losing weight slowly but steady & am scared to death that going backwards will slow things down even more.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you are still getting liquids down then I wouldn't worry but if it gets hard to drink get an un fill ASAP! Once liquids get tough you could be in real trouble and it can happen fast!

hmmmm, that's a tough one! Are the days you are pb'ing and getting stuck, are you eating too fast or too big of a bite? In my experience, I would get an unfill, and once you have no problems go back in for a little bit more. I have had 3 unfills and felt so much better afterwards.

Sounds like typical week for me, band is quite finicky isn't it? I have been really focused lately on making sure the bites are small and chewing really really good. It seems that the issue for me is letting myself get too hungry. Empty tummy seems to let the band tighten up then even one bite too big or not chewed enough leads to stuck. So now I am getting stuck less. Also I wait about an hour or so before eating Breakfast since the bands seems tight in the early am. I have chosen to keep my current Fluid (6.5 cc in 10 cc band). Good luck!

Thanks for all the feedback! I am guilty of eating too fast a lot of the times. Trying to change 37 years of bad habits is hard. I also have 6.5cc in a 10cc band. Liquids go down fine. I've decided to keep the Fluid in for now & slow way down on my eating. I'll give it another week then make a decision!

Thanks again!

I to have to learn to slow down...and like someone else stated..I let myself get to hungry ...So I bought myself a lil coctail fork and I use that 50% of the time to show my mind what a small bite looks like...it really has helped....good luck..your not alone

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
