Pb'd Yesterday, Bandster Vets, What Did I Do Wrong?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I looked around and could not find an answer, but I believe I Pb'd for the first time yesterday. So I ate dinner (pizza with portabella mushroom as the crust so lap band friendly). It went down fine, but not long after eating I felt pretty full in my chest like I could feel it in my chest and back, but I didn't think I was stuck. I took a few sips of cold tea to help ease the discomfort, then not long after I hiccupped, burped a little, it felt a little odd so I ran to the bathroom and liquid came up with saliva, no food. Any clue what I did wrong? It was not more than a cup of food and I did not drink a lot, so not sure what happened? Any thoughts?

And I'm down 45 as of today, woopwoop! :)

Was your portion size a cup or less? Did you chew every bite well? Did you eat slowly? If I don't follow these rules, I usually feel my early warning signals that I am at risk to get stuck...and so I stop eating immediately.

I believe that it would have been better not to drink any liquids, and just allow your meal to pass through your band on it's own.

You may have ate too much, to quickly or when you drank the liquid it just pushed it back up. It happens sometimes even if you do everything right. I have noticed that if I feel this way and I try and push it down with liquids it always comes back up, so I have learned to walk around and take deep breaths and try and let it pass on its own and it usually does within a few minutes most days. Hope your feeling better.

i agree w/ the other posters. i think the cold liquid probably didnt help. i've noticed every day is different for me...sometimes I get stuck easily, sometimes not at all.

I agree, I think the tea pushed your band over the edge and you PB'd it out. No biggy. You probable eat enough, maybe too much, and were full then you drank & there was no room for the liquid.

How are you now? If you are back to normal then all is good! ;)

Sounds like portabella mushroom pizza was not the right thing for you to eat. My 1st ever PB, back 3 years ago was after eating a slice of pizza. Best wishes to you!

I agree with the prior posts; perhaps your portion was a bit too much and it sounds like the liquids put you over the edge so it came back up. I cannot drink liquid right after eating or it sends me over the top.

Thank you all, I will watch the liquids right after and next time I feel too "stuffed", I will let it pass on through. Today everything all went down just fine :).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
