I had my surgery yesterday and I feel pretty good. Some things that have been bugging me is that I have a cough that I can't seem to get rid of, and a feeling of tightness in my chest. The Pulmonologist and nurses all said it was normal and from anesthesia but it is super uncomfy and I don't like it. Other then that and the gas pains, I feel okay. I'm taking Lortab to control the pain every 6 hours and it is def helping me stay comfortable.

I had a great experience in the hospital, all my nurses and staff were so helpful and kind. I was really impressed with how well I was taken care of.

It has been an overall good experience. I just wish this chest tightness feeling would go away because it makes me nervous. I have a Spirometer that I'm using to help clear my lungs so hopefully that helps. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. I had my surgery Wednesday and had tightness, too. I have lo coughed up lots of mucus. They say it is normal and from the breathing tube.

yes that tight feeling is the worst!! what helped me was,,,when i was laying on the recliner,if i tilted my head back a little and took deep breaths...and it does go away after a couple of days...by day 3,i felt better...

they say the breathing tube gives you a sore throat and cough...i was scared to cough, thinking that i was gonna loosen something! but they say to cough,as it loosens the mucas

Yes I also had the same

When I woke up I kept telling the nurse I couldn't breathe

She said my oxygen level was good

It took a few weeks to feel normal

Good Luck

I was banded 10/11/12 and have the same chest tightness, like I need to burp but can't. I also still have terrible shoulder pain, but my abdomen isn't bothering me at all. I'll feel great when my shoulder pain goes away....my husband offered to stomp my toe so I'd forget about my shoulder...lol...I declined.

the pulling feeling isnt doing damage,, its just your body adjusting , we just have to remember to take it EASY lol as much as we feel pretty much back to normal our bodys are still HEAL INTERNALLY and adjusting to pretty much a unknown object,,,

ive been able to manage ny shoulder pain with just iburofen ,,, also i know it hurts but do arm stretches it helps move the gas and helps a bit :)

I had this too. I was coughing up yellow stuff. It made me very nervous and coughing hurts so bad! I was worried about doing damage to the band. My surgeon said coughing was ok and I may have a cold and to cough the "stuff" in my lungs out. I took liquid mucousnex and that helped immensely. Keep moving too that helps.

I was banded 10/8 and I had the tightness from gas until today when I finally burped. I didn't get the shoulder pain but definitely the gas in my chest feeling. Keep moving and bending if possible it will go away!!

The gas pains are definitely the worst feeling for me right now. I don't have much incision pain, just this horrible tightness in my chest and shoulders. When I burp, I feel so much better. But then 2 minutes later, gas build up again. I have been walking around as much as possible because that really is the only thing that seems to help it. Fortunately it seems that the coughing fits have subsided today so that is one less thing to worry about for now.

I weighed myself today and I am down 7 pounds since the day I was weighed in the hospital prior to my surgery 4 days ago. I don't even see how that is possible but I am not complaining. I sure am hungry though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
