Banded Yesterday. Some Concerns. Help!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on October 11, 2012. I am so sore today, legs, arms , body. I'm also 3 pounds heavier today. Dont know if it was from all the IV fluids or what. Did not eat anything that whole day. Now I'm on a liquid diet for the next 5 days. Did anyone gain weight, Im swollen also hoping this will past quickly. Feedback and experiences wanted. Did anyone experience this?

It gets better quick I can assure you. That's why they gave you pain meds prior to surgery to help wtih the discomfort you're experiencing today. I didn't gain any weight but your body has gas inside they had to add to make room for them to work without hurting you. That should pass within a week to 10 days, just take into consideration that each person's body reacts differenty. The liquid diet won't be so bad. Have plenty of Jello made up, broth ... and with the broth, if you like wonton Soup, add a bit of soy sauce to it for flavoring and those will help time pass. Also have some tea and do not forget about your very important Protein Drinks. That will get you through the liquid diet and it will become better and easier as time progresses. One small hint I would recommend .. don't weigh every day. Make it once a week or longer between weigh-ins. That way you will see your true progress. Good luck to you! Hope this was of some assistance!!

Kband, congrats on your surgery. Now PUT THAT scale AWAY!!!!!!

You are full of medicine & gas, and swollen. Now is the time to rest and focus on healing. Please don't worry about weight loss, that will come in time. Rest, walk and sip your fluids. Take care. You will rock this! :)

I am 3 + weeks post op and although I did lose weight my first week post op, I haven't lost a pound since. I have since put the scale away and concentrate on eating and healing and walking..........I will worry about the scale once I am eating on maintenance and getting fills. There was a whole thread here recently and majority of people are not losing inthe first 6 weeks. Your body is starving, your metabolism has stopped and is hanging onto everything.

Pain, yep............that will go away, take care of yourself.

i was banded on oct5...and i have not weighed myself yet....BUT,i know that my rings slide easily on and off now,my clothes feel bigger also.

i am seeing surgeon on monday and will weigh myself that morning, not before, because as of today(6 days post op),i am still very swollen....so i know that, even though im not eating, getting on the scale too soon will be a letdown!!

i figured i'd give myself a break from the scale and focus more on healing now, considering that once i'm all healed,i will be a slave to the scale for the rest of my life!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
