Mine was four hours away. They kept me for about four hours after surgery and doped me up pretty good. The only way he released me was my hub ad to promise to stop every 45 minutes and make me walk a couple minutes and that he did. I was sound asleep n he would make me get out. Blood clots can be huge scary issue, that's why. Take two pillows. One for you head and one to rest n hold on belly. Trust me. The other thing huge,

Take a cooler with ziplock of ice chips n small cup with plastic spoon. They give it to you in the hospital And it was awesome all the way home. You never realize How good it tastes when you're half asleep. Maybe it freezes your insides to numb. It works but it needs to be small small chips. Hope that helps

Let's try this again. I was banded September 12 And I would live four hours away also. They kept me four hours and let me go only if Husband would stop every 40 minutes and forced me to walk. He did even if I was sound asleep this prevents blood clots that they worry about.

Absolutely take two pillows one for your head and one to hold on your stomach. The other thing is take ice chips. Chip them up small put them in a cooler take a cup and a plastic spoon. That is a lifesaver and it's something you can't buy on the way home. We had a big cooler and put things in that.

I hope this helps were here if you need us.

I wasn't allowed to drive for at least 48hrs and could not drive as long as I was still on the pain medication. I think I drove at about 4 days post op.....I stopped the pain meds the day after surgery. I could have NEVER gotten in a car the day after surgery let alone for 3 hrs. You are still all loopy from the drugs from surgery, from your pain meds, and quite frankly your insides are mess up and sore. My surgeon wasn't thrilled when I had to drive 6hrs 1week post op.

My Dr just said I couldn't drive for a week after surgery.

The only driving restrictions imposed by my surgeon were no driving while you are still taking prescription pain meds and not until it did not hurt to be seated in your vehicle with a seat belt on. I believe I resumed driving about 4 days post op.

I would not drive on the pain meds they give because they are really strong, but you might not have much pain and be able to drive sooner. Your doc will give discharge instructions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
