I'm so glad to see some people are in the same stage I'm in. I hope we can stAy in touch and report on the experience we have with the band. So far I'm working on the 3 month weight loss program my insurance requires. My next Dr. Appt is 13 November. It is looking like I will be banded in February.

Just starting. I talked to my insurance and they require 6 months but will cover at 90%. I'm 5'8 - 230lbs. Borderline hypertensive with a horrible family hx of htn, diabetes, among others. I'm hoping I don't have to put up a huge fight to get approved.

Hi I'm 43 and starting my new journey as well. I have two more appts and then I wait for final insurance approval. The funny things is, my insurance plan doesn't require anything, these appts are to satisfy the surgeon. Hoping to be banded the first part of January. I am also so very excited to have found this site!

Congratulations to all "newbies" for trying to do something about weight control and getting healthier. Take a notebook, pen, pencil and ask any questions. The seminar I attended was ran by my surgeon and he gave out lots of information. Do a google search on lapband procedure, there's a large variety of information. Also youtube has the lapband procedure filmed in case you are interested.

Soon, you will all be on the "otherside" with the rest of us. No matter which procedure you feel is best for you, it is only a tool and you still have too do the hard work about thinking what you put in your mouth. There is NO guarentee with the procedures.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith

Thank you. I have been doing all my research and I am glad I did. My surgeon also conducted my seminar and it was very informative. I am hoping to finally get a surgery date after Thanksgiving. I have two more appts between now and then. Wish me luck!!! I am so very excited.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
