I Needed The Band Because Dieting Didnt Work For Me

Recommended Posts

So I have to agree or go elsewhere? I didn't say I didn't respect other opinions. I explained that I am successfully managing bandster hell so I didn't need all the advice you get from a doctor. I shared that I was glad my doctor was realistic. I will continue to share my thoughts on this forum. My thought was you don't have to diet to be successful on the band. Does that offend you somehow? I didn't say your thoughts about that weren't welcomed. Opinions are welcome...those who disagree are welcome to do so. I just clarified that I am successful so my comment was not a passive-aggressive request for help. It was a statement from a different viewpoint.

I just stumbled upon this thread and I'm confused what all the fuss is about. I didn't see anything wrong with your ( or anyone's) post. Seems to me though, by you saying that you post " just to post" and not for a comment is describing a blog for this venue. I would read it if you blogged, as I'm sure others would. Maybe this forum isn't exactly right for your desired effect.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm confused...if you didn't or were not planning to bash for the reasons I listed then it was not directed at you. Maybe you should look at other posts I have made. It was one comment and I never said I was not open to other's comments. I said don't bash me for my unconventional, based on my opinion of what I have read, thoughts about the fact that the band can work without dieting. If that bothers you, I'm sorry. If clarifying that I am losing so I don't need all of the "only eat one cup", eat Protein first, etc advice offends you then that means you don't intend to help me with what I am struggling with and that is needing restriction. I have seen all the people who diet give that advice and some bash others who don't. If you haven't that's ok too. This is a free thought forum. You are welcome to agree or disagree. Comment or not comment but I am also free to do the same. I didn't say I was not open to comments...I just don't need to hear why I am not losing when I am. I need restriction and I glad my doctor is realistic about the fact that restriction is necessary or there would be no point in a band. I have two friends who eat as they like and have restriction to the point that they CAN NOT eat more than a cup of food at a sitting. They have both gotten to goal weight and that's what I want. I don't want to diet. My doctor is ok with that. The Jane Fonda comment was a joke....relax and allow everyone to express things the way they need to. No post has your name on it so if you disagree or it doesn't sound like it is about you then it is not. I have seen people get bashed for saying they can't eat certain things or they aren't working out everyday. That is my experience and if you haven't seen it or feel that way good. Does that mean I don't have the right to?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
