Frustrated

Recommended Posts

I had surgery August 8. Dr. Fixed a hiatal hernia, so no fill for one month after surgery. The first fill was aggressive and way too much. My second appointment was an X-ray and an unfill. Went again today -another X-ray and unfill. I think whatever I have lost has been in spite of the band, not because of it. The beginning weight submitted to insurance was actually 10 pounds more than I actually weighed, so it looks as though I have lost a bunch, but I know better. And yes, I'm frustrated...

There are some differing opinions on the forum about how aggressively a band should be filled. I have chosen to be quite conservative with my fills, as I don't choose to experience the effects of an over filled band. I also had to wait for 14 weeks post op for my first fill. My surgeon has been supportive of my choice to be conservative with my fills.

This journey does require patience, and I sincerely hope that you will be able, in time, to find the amount of Fluid that will give you adequate restriction that you can live with and still eat a healthy and band appropriate diet.

Best wishes...

In Australia our Dr's use the slowly slowly approach. They give frequent small fills as they feel that it is safer and also easier for a person to adapt. Sorry that you have had a bad experience so early on. Hopefully now you are filled at a level you can cope with. Don't stress about losing quickly - this process takes time. The main thing is that it is coming off and not going up.You didn't gain it overnight and the same goes for losing.

Hope that everything now goes well

Yes, I have to agree. I may not be losing very fast, but at least I am not gaining!!! That, in itself, is worth it - but the frustration is still there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
