It is normal. Focus on getting in plenty of liquids and your food intake will increase as you heal.

Better than normal. I could only have Clear Liquids for 12 days. You will not get many calories in the early post op stage

Yes totally normal. I even called my clinic around post op day 4, and they said don't worry about the Protein and calories for the first week or so, just stay hydrated.

the first couple weeks, my surgeon said to focus on my protein and stay hydrated. because i wasnt (on anything but liquids ) he mentioned nothing of calories....

keep sipping and then sip some more......you can do it..(btw, all dr's are different so what works for me may not be what your dr wants)...congrats on the surgery).

I'm three weeks post and still have issues trying to eat and drink over 800 calories. I am never hungry which I find so amazing. Down 15 lbs.

As you continue healing, You will more hungry. So try and keep 800-1000 calories during the healing then as you get deeper in the Stages, try and stay 1200-1400. But, please check with your doctor or dietitian.

Best wishes

I agree with everyone. I could barely drink anything the first 3 days after surgery, I called the doctor too. Try to get at least 2 Protein Shakes a day as you can take in more fluids. Protein is vital after surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
