Can't Keep Any Food Down

Recommended Posts

I was banded 11-13-09, About a year ago I had my band unfilled due to not being able to keep any food down. I was unfilled for about a month (still felt a lot of constriction in how much I could eat) then had an upper endoscopy to ensure than band was working and there was no slippage, then was re filled. My last fill was in June, and since then I have had horrendous issues not keeping food down again. For instance I ate a pear about 45 mins ago, and threw it all back up. Anyone else had these same issues? Any remedies you can suggest? I DO NOT want to go thru another unfilling and endoscopy!!!

I hate to tell you this, but you need have your band checked again and likely another unfill. Vomiting is never normal with the band and can lead to major problems. The longer you put it off the worse the risk of developing major issues, and you've already been putting it off since June, so I'd strongly suggest getting into your surgeon right away to figure out what's going on.

Best wishes to you.

Agreed. You must see your doc. You are not able to properly nourish yourself that way and you could also be causing other problems with the vomiting. Good Luck :)

sorry but having a band means dealing with the dr (both good and bad times)

if you cant keep food or drink down, its time to see the dr.

if you dont, you can end up hurting yourself and you only have one life.

dont waste it. go to the dr and get it over with.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
