The Very Beginning Of My Journey Starts Thursday ;0)

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!!! My journey starts Thursday!! Its my consultation!! It feels like I've been researching and waiting forever. I already received the letter of necessity from my doctor..so I have 1% done lol ;)

What should I expect? What should I ask? How long after the consulation (on average) does it take to have the surgery?

Another question... I recently started a relationship with someone I care a lot about. How long in, a new relationship, do you mention the surgery??

Thanks in advance!! Love this site ;0)

Congrats! I am 4 weeks out and had my first fill today and I mentioned in my blog tonight that riding the elevator to go home from the drs appointment today, I was just thanking my lucky stars and how I couldn't believe I was as far as I am. To tell you its all roses and sunshine would be lying, there is some tough work ahead of you, but it is all worth it in the end. Trust me, I've had many hungry nights during pre-op and right after post-op that I thought I might wake up and have a pillow missing I was so hungry. But it is all manageable. I'd make sure you ask what your surgeon's pre/post op diet requiremens are, a lot of surgeon's vary. And welcome to the site lots and lots of great people here with lots of knowledge! Best of luck!!

The amount of time varies. It will depend on your insurance and what they require. Do lots of research and write down all questions for your doc to answer.

As far as your relationship. You will be down for a while after the surgery and you will have incisions I guess it just depends. Best wishes :)

From my first consult to actually getting a surgery date was 6mths. That's what my insurance required. Then I was delayed another month for personal issues, so this Monday is my day, yeah! !!

I wasn't happy at first about time and hoops I had to jump throw, but now I'm glad it took awhile. It gave me plenty of time to learn all I could about LB. If I had the surgery quicker, I don't think I would

have done very well. I'm a little slow on absorbing all the info, lol.

Best wishes on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
