Hello all my fellow lapbanders,

Sorry its been a minute since I last posted, but life happens and I'm sure you all understand that! So I'm almost at a month post-op and things are going quite well. The weight loss has slowed down some but I'm still ticking along pretty well. I'm almost to about 40 pounds lost to date! My wife had surgery two weeks after I did and let me tell you it was the exact opposite of what I went through. I'll get into that story in another post!

I hope everyone is doing well. I do have a few questions. Did any of you get filled at your first post-op appointment or did your doctor or nurse tell you that you won't get filled until 6 weeks post-op? I was pretty disappointed when all that happend at my post-op appointment was my steri-strips taken off and told to keep up with the diet.

Also, have any of you had any bleeding from any of your scars? The nurse just ripped my strips off and along with it came the scab that the strips had made form closing my wounds. I had to put other strips back on after the fact to get the hole to close. Amazing stuff! Lastly, how long was it that any of you started to work out again and what activities didn't bother you? Thanks in advance for the guidance, I'll now post my wife's surgery day events in my next post.

V/r,

DeShawn Johnson

Hello! Welcome back. I can answer a few of your questions. Regarding your question about the incision site - I was almost 4 weeks post op when I suddenly had some fresh bleeding from one of my sites. I noticed it b/c the steri strips were saturated with fresh red blood. I went in to see my surgeon, and they pulled the strips off and said that a scab had come off which prompted the bleeding. They cleaned it and reapplied steri strips. Now, almost 6 weeks post op, the second set of steri strips are off, but I still have quite a scab there that is still healing. I guess it happens. The other incisions look great, but I will definitely have a scar on this one!

My surgeon also does not do fills until patients are at least six weeks post op.

As for activity, I only did slow walking up until this week when I started some light weight training and increased and varied my cardio workout. I was in a lot of discomfort up through about the fourth week. Some people feel great by then, but everyone is different, and for me, it took a bit longer, but I am feeling great now!

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
