Work Travel With The Band

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I'm in the days before my first appointment with my surgeon and I've been coming up with questions to ask. My biggest question is, will I be well enough after surgery to travel for work?

I have a job where I travel weekly Mon through Fri and I'm only home on the weekends. I can definitely schedule a week off work for my surgery and recovery time. And I can even try to get another week where I'm in our main office working and not travelling, but soon after that, I'm going to have to get back on the road. I usually fly and I'm usually lugging my 40lb suitcase back and forth to the airport. I heard that lifting anything heavy was a big no-no after surgery.

What do you guys think? Has anyone else here had to travel a couple of weeks after surgery? Is this okay? How did you handle your post-op diet being away from home? I'm really nervous that the doctor is going to tell me that my travelling is going to be a problem when I get banded. I really like my job, but I really want my lapband

I was banded on Sept 17th and flew on Sept 24th and again on Oct 6th for work trips. I didn't have heavy luggage and as I am still in recovery, I brought Optifast with me, ordered Soups and cream of wheat and it wasn't a problem. I also have a pretty uneventful recovervy, no pain, no gas no issues. I still wouldn't lift a 40lb suitcase, but you can find something on any menu, or stock up at a grocery.

Thanks for the reply wildrose! Yea, I think my luggage will be a problem. I'm going to see if I can get it down to one of those small carry-on bags. That's going to be tough for me though - especially for a week-long trip, lol. I keep hearing about Optifast, so I'll look into that and see if I can have some of that on hand. Maybe I'll even buy a small blender to put in my luggage if needed.

That's great that your recovery has been uneventful! I hope mine is the same. I'm just worried about being 600 miles from home and having some horrible issues. I think I'll be okay - maybe I'm just overthinking it, lol.

You will know how you feel 3-4 days after surgery. I thought about packing a magic bullet but can't bring that with carry on. Optifast was my dr's pre surgery drink I had to do for 2 weeks. I couldn't find any other Protein drink I liked so stuck with that, it might only be available thru your surgeon. It comes with a shaker.< /p>

I have not problems telling people I have had surgery and cannot lift and ask for help.
