Lori,

I just prepared myself mentally. The whole thing is a life changing process.

I am cooking dinner for my husband and son already and it does not bother me.

I wish you luck on your surgery and I can tell you that I am glad I got mine.

Joanne,

It varies from person to person. It also depends on what you do for a living. If you have to lift, push or pull, you might need more time off. I'm a nurse, and I took off longer because I lift, turn and push patients and machines.

90 wafers (2 per day) for $25. But often, they run 25% off sales. I usually purchase 2 jugs when their on sale. It works out to be less than $17 per month if you purchase at full price. And I can really feel the difference. I started taking the liquid form right away, then switched to the wafers just cuz their easier for me to stick in my pocket and eat on the run. But the liquid really wasn't bad.

I had the shoulder pain for 2 months. It's horrible. Almost nothing helped. I think most don't have it for quite that long. I believe it is from a nerve that is attched to the muscle in your abdoman that they stitch the port to. That nerve runs up over the shoulder. The only thing that helped me was a heating pad. It will go away at some point. I haven't met anybody who's shoulder pain didn't go away.

The doctor's will leave it up to you. My company allows 6 weeks off work and I'm taking all of it. I don't want to be at work unil I know how my body handles the foods, especially when I get to the regular food. I have IBS and my first week after surgery I already had a very bad experience with diarrhea. My 2nd week I had diarrhea only 1 time and I still take a nap in the afternoon, I'm not 100% to feeling good. I get tired real easy, especially going up and down stairs. I work in a very busy office and I attend a lot of meetings, the rest rooms are not close to where I sit. I don't want to take any chances. This is my 2nd week and I think I could push my self to go back to work but it would depend on my work enviornment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
