Recommended Posts

Sweet potatoes sound SO good! My phase 2 is full liquids... What was/is your phase 2?

oatmeal , potatoes , refried Beans.

I guess everyone calls it "mushies" but my paper says phase 2.

I'm starting phase 2 on wednesday and my sister who already had lap band a few years ago said Boston Market was her saviour during this phase haha!! It's weird how the doctors tell us all different stuff..because I was told I couldn't have oatmeal for like a month...I was wondering if Beans is considered a "mushy" ..because I like a black bean kind of creamy Soup and I'm not sure if thats acceptable during phase 2 or the "mushy phase"

Cream of wheat, cottage cheese, pudding, yogurt, oatmeal, refried Beans, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes or plantains. All of those are phase 2 foods.

The mushie phase list I was given was pretty vague, so I've called my surgeons office a couple of times to ask if certain things were ok. I'm just doing refried canned Beans that I've thinned with a couple of drops of Water. I'd say if in doubt call and ask...... that's what your Dr is there for !

My dr is so strict. You can never have starchy carbs on any phase. Mushies to them consist of plain greek yogurt cottage cheese pureed Protein like your lean meats and smashed up vegies. No sugar. Nothing white. No potatoes. I dint think i can follow it that strictly. I can understand strict but this seems extreme. I like a South Beach type if plan. With occasional low carb carbs.

It does seem kind of extreme ! I can understand once you have clearance to eat and chew, but on the healing phase which is so restrictive anyway, I can't see being that strict.

There are 470 calories in one serving.... Granted one serving is 7 oz....but just be careful.

At this point my only concern is healing properly and having enough calories to provide energy.

Once I'm cleared to eat and work out I'll become more diligent. I'm just trying to survive right now :)

I am so excited for mashed potatoes and pudding. I seriously hate everything about week one because I hate the taste of the chicken broth I bought and I hate Jello so just imagine how I've been all week...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
