cindyn 0 Posted March 29, 2006 I got the steps I need to take to get started but I need to call first. It says "thank you for your interest in the gastric bypass surgery". I think this may be a form letter but I want it clear I want lapband. #1 contact insurance #2 attend a pre op meeting #3 Attend a support group If I am still interested then I have see a psycologist, dietician and physical theripist!!! Is this the norm on getting started???? I live in Maine. My first step is to see if my insurance will pay or I am out completely of the steps.
Alexandra 55 Posted March 29, 2006 Hi Cindy, Yep, those steps are pretty standard. But you can certainly call your insurer first and see what sort of coverage your policy provides for bariatric surgery. If you know your BMI you can probably tell whether you're medically qualified for the surgery (is it over 40? Then you are.). If you are medically qualified and your insurer provides for bariatric surgery, then you can get started with all the doctor's pre-op procedures.
