Throwing Up Blood

Recommended Posts

I had a stuck episode Friday did not want to throw up so I had fought it for about 4 hours and it finally cleared on its own, later I ate some cream of chicken Soup, and it was horrible felt like someone sitting on my chest hard to breathe, after about 3 hours I ended up throwing up the soup at first, then clear flem, the more I tried to fight it the worse it would be and then it was blood every 15 mins for 4 hours, it wasn’t a little steak it was handfuls after 3 hours of freaking out I woke up my partner and off to the ER we went.

What I have learned from this experience:

#1 ER nurses and doctors do not have a clue about lap bands, AT ALL

#2 Throwing up blood does not mean you are dying (my bad)

#3 If you have a sever stuck episode it needs to be followed with 24 hours of Clear Liquids.< /span>

#4 After a stuck episode never ever try to drink or eat in a reclined position.

#5 As much as you want to just lay down and die, walk walk walk vacuum do laundry etc. laying down it only gets worse,

#6 Morphine is not all that

yesterday I was unable to keep anything down, this morning so far I have had 1/2 cup Water and 1 cup tea, I will take is slow, and see what tomorrow brings if it isn’t better or gets worse I will call band doc and have it checked to see if it has slipped, but as of today I am hoping it has just gotten irritated and swollen.

Of course all this is my very unprofessional opinion just my very personal experence.

i agree...if you are throwing up blood, in my opinion, instead of posting on here, please go to the ER and/or let your surgeon know what is going on. better to be safe than sorry.

Sincerely sorry to read that you had this horrible experience...though you seem to have learned some valuable insights.

When I needed to be treated in the ER 2 times since having my band placed, my surgeon was adamant that I only go the the ER at the hospital where his practice is affiliated, though it is around 70 miles from my home.

I did ask about his reasoning, as I would have to pass by 2 other major hospitals to get to the one he wanted me at. He said that not all hospitals know how to treat band patients and the medical issues they can present with. He advised that the ER at Celebration Heath was knowledgeable to treat his patients as he has been there to conduct training sessions with the staff.

The lesson I took away from okiekat's post and my own experiences is that not all ER's are equal in their preparedness to manage bandster conditions and complications.

I hope you feel better fast...

Just came from my last educational appt before surgery next Monday and they did say to go only to the two ER's they're affiliated with. Like Sojo, pass up my 2 local ERs.

Good to know you can throw up blood and it doesn't mean you're dying. But get it checked.

Hope you're feeling better!

TYVM! it didn’t hit me until this morning that I should have just called him, it was 3:00am on a sat and I thought that the hospital would call him once I got there if they felt it was needed, but found out today that he is no longer affiliated with that hosp. Thank you again guys, this is such a learning process and times like this it is good to hear someone elese say they would have done the same thing, I somewhat felt silly for even going, the doc at hosp told me that vomiting blood is very common that it doesn’t take much to make that happen......did feel better when I left tho : )

They gave me IV Protonox and Phenergan, which I thought was ridiculous because I wasn’t nauseated.

In about 30mins will be getting xrays to see if there is a slip

Any update to this? How did it go? We can all learn from your experience.

Blessings,

Hello Marketingdude,

No slips was really affraid that was going to be an issue, guess im not as delicate as I thought I was, Doc wants to do an EGD money is really tight right now and things have been well after 5 days of liquids then mushies and today was the first time I had solids and all is well, not sure what set it all off but when I seen blood that put me in a panic, going to take it easy and hope all is well if it happens again I will go in for the EGD. thank you for asking!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
