Am I On The High End Of Weight For This To Work?

Recommended Posts

I decided on getting the lapband. Most places did not want to use the band on me. I am 6'4" and when I first visited dr. I was 454 yes just like the engine(LMAO). He made me cut down and be around 430 for the surgery and I made it down. I had the Band installed and is in post op now.

I am wondering if there was anyone else that was the size I was when they got the band. Currently I am under 420 and already feel better.

i have seen people weighing more than you on this forum lose weight and are healthy. i was up there myself (at bmi of nearly 62 and nearly 350...) but am now down 73 and counting. you will hear from both men and women (on this thread) regarding your post. if you help the band (by changing what/how much you eat and exercising) what is stopping you from being at the weight you want? nothing except yourself.

all the best honey......and congrats on that loss so far :)

I had alot of questions when I had the surgery done for myself...but a whole lot more when we had it done for my daughter...the doctor said he didn't feel the lapband would be beneficial for her because she had alot more weight to loose than the band would allow...but when I questioned (with gastric bypass what prevents you from stretching out the new stomach...cause we are not born with large stomachs to begin with...)and her only being 21 years old she has alot of time left to repeat the same bad habits that got us here to begin with...and the lapband is completely revearsable so if need be it can be removed and you still have all your original body parts...and I tell you...I have lost 100 lbs in 20 months and she has lost 80 in 5 months...it is like hers is just melting away...doctor also said the more you need to loose the easier it comes off...so I believe you will have great success..good luck and follow your doctors orders...that is the key to success...I promise food will no longer be an issue...it becomes a thing you have to have to survive...not to survive to have more food...

Sweetie, i'm 5'4- first Dr. appointment on 7/26/12 I was 445lbs, strated my pre-op diet on 8/7/12, and was banded 8/21/12.

On my pre-op I lost 17lbs, two weeks post I lost 12lbs, then i strted eating "normal" and I lost only 7lbs in 3 weeks. I freaked out because I thought i was getting getting off track ( as it turns out losing 1-2lbs a week is normal fo ra bandster) But have so much weigh to lose that I needed way more so I did ketosis for 3 days an dlost 6lbs, and teh a couple of days later I started my 30 day challenge today is my 8 day in it with a 2 days only liquids because I had my first fill. I exercise one hour five times a week now andI drink a gallon of Water a day and today it's oficially 2months since I started my Journey and i'm 395lbs exactly 50lbs down!!! It can be done youjust have to help your band help you. Remebr its a tool is easier to diet becaus eyou are not hungry all the time and if tou are like I was last week it's becuase you need a fill. You area guy and guys tend to lose weigh faster so don't be discouraged. Remebr if you ever get stuck ina rut just get your body in ketosis mode for 3 dyas and you will be back on track =) Major luck ok.

My brother was banded 3 years ago. He's shorter than you by 4 inches, but had the same BMI. He has lost it and kept it off this whole time! He swims every morning with a club swim masters team (m-f) and does team sorting on horse back on the weekends. He also ropes. I know you'll do as great as him!

Thanks everyone and I look forward to this journey. I really like this forum and reading the good bad and all the things that people have done or gone though. I am not trying to recreate the wheel. I am just trying to not feel hungry lmao.

I am only 5'9" but topped the scales @ 377 with a BMI of 55. I have been very successful but its wasnt without a lot of learning, dedication to myself and willpower. The band will do 70% of the work for you. You need to do the rest.

And until you are in the green zone you need to be extra careful to eat the recommended amount of calories you need to lose or it won't happen since the band isnt performing at the optimum level yet.

Best of luck to you!

I was 420 6' 0 ft.... Had my surgery on 12/14/11 .... at my check up last month I was down to 213. It is absolutely possible for larger people to succeed with the band! Good luck.

I am 6'4" also and I was very close to you. I was banded August 7th. I just got my 4th fill today and I am down 50 lbs! I gave up bread Pasta and pretty much all white carbs and I feel like I'm doing well. I work a pretty physical job so I stay active almost all day long. I have seen a lot of big guys like us on here have great success! It is possible to achieve your goals. Just work hard and listen to your body and you will do great. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
