Hey everyone,

I have never been in the hospital. What do I need to take with me? I should only be there one night. But I want to be prepared.

Thanks All

Anna

My surgery was out patient..so I was only in the hospital 7 hrs. I took my ID...

They provided socks and anything else I needed...which wasn't much.

I'd bring toiletries, like deodorant, tooth brush and toothpaste. I'd also bring a comfy robe because they will want you up and walking right away, and those stupid hospital gowns have a habit of flashing your bottom, so a robe is a definite must.

Also, bring comfy clothes for your trip home. No blue jeans, maybe a house dress or loose pants like sweats.

Good luck!

You may want to have a pillow for the car ride home to hold on your belly for those bumps or coughs. Also, if you have contacts, you should wear your glasses as those will need to come out. Leave any jewelry at home. Definitely the comfy clothes though. For me, chapstick was a blessing to have too. :)

Not much :) I slept almost the entire time, and once I didn't it was time to go home. They provided toiletrles, and a second gown to use as a bathrode. Chapstick and a small booboo pillow for the ride home is right on the money but I'd say that's it. I took my kindle, what a joke. Oh, cell phone for letting people know you are fine. Good luck, and remember to let your body rest afterwards.

I was glad I brought my own slippers, I hated those socks the hospital gave me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
