How Do People Do This!?

Recommended Posts

How in the world to people eat spicy food and NOT drink anything!?!? My husband is an amazing cook and does all the cooking around here. He makes a lot of spicy foods. I stay away from them most of the time because, to be quite frank, since having my gallbladder removed in 1996 after my daughter was born, my stomach can't handle a lot of spicy food. However, I do enjoy it from time to time. He made a Mexican chicken dinner tonight that was soooo good, but my mouth is on fire! I am looking longingly at my cup of ice Water, but I am holding off. Anyone here eat spicy foods on a regular basis? If so, how in the world do you do it!!??! :P

I love spicy food! And I physically CAN'T drink while eating - I'll throw it all up. Sometimes if it's really spicy, I will take a mouthful of iced cold Water, swish it around in my mouth, and spit it out. Helps with the burn a little.

But I know exactly what you mean. I look longingly at my husbands drink during dinner and wished I could have some! Once in a while, I will try it to see what I can get away with. I can't ever get away with it. It's really bad in a restaurant with having to run to the ladies room. You'd think I'd learn!

Good luck!

Marci

You just do it...It was a hard lesson to learn. I am like Marci... If I drink with food it will come back up. But look at how much money you save on drinks. Lol

Marci.....I have actually never TRIED drinking with a meal or not so I have no idea what would happen, just don't do it because my doctor told me not to. LOL Swishing with Water is a good idea though!

kmaas21605.....now THAT would be a very good idea! I didn't even think of that, and it would have gone perfectly with the meal! Thanks!

Floridays.......I save SO much money at restaurants now! Only drink Water and don't even always order a meal. We actually went to Texas Roadhouse yesterday. My daughter ordered a steak dinner that came with 2 sides. She got a cup of chili as one side and gave it to me. LOL So many ways to be thrifty now!

Wow! I alway thought you "shouldn't" drink Water 30 and 30, because you would wash the food through too fast, not that you "couldn't" drink! I learn something new everyday here!

That happened to me a couple of times; I put an ice cube in my mouth and swished it around . . . I CANNOT drink either while eating. So, I really try to avoid spicy foods.

I was told you shouldn't because it will make the food go through too quickly. I didn't know it would make some people sick either, but that is even more reason for me to NOT want to drink it.

Yes, I cannot drink right after eating. it really hurts. Like the Water will sit right on top of the food and feels like it is stuck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
