gigim 8 Posted October 7, 2012 I have had my band since 2008. I have had fills, unfills, acid reflux,ect.. I have gain back 20 pounds of the 50 I lost. I also had all of my Fluid taken out at one time. Now I have 5.5cc back in... Still 20 pounds up. I was thinking about joining Beaumont hosptial's liquid diet program to ad in losing the 20 pounds. Has anyone done that?????
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted October 8, 2012 Just my opinion, but why not utilize the tool you already have? The whole purpose of the band is to lose weight without having to go through diets like the Beaumont liquid one. I would make an appointment with a nutritionist to help you get back on track. I guarantee they can do far more to help you than any liquid diet can. Best wishes to you. 3 ♕ajtexas♕, Maddysgram and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
gigim 8 Posted October 8, 2012 You must understand some people who have bands 4 or 5 years sometimes have problems with acid reflux, and weight gain. I'm one of those folks. My tool worked great the first couple of years and it has been down hill since.... There are a lot of folks who have had this problem and are still having it... Plus not to mention I'm in menopause... Just looking for some NEW ideas.... Thanks 1 elcee reacted to this

Have you spoke to your surgeon recently about all this? I would even go so far as to request a barium swallow to make sure your band is still in the proper place. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
gigim 8 Posted October 8, 2012 Barirum swallow have been done twice. Everything is normal and in place...I don't have acid reflux now, since I had an unfill... By the way acid reflux is a side effect of the lapband....after a couple years of having the band, acid reflux is the number one side effect...and weight gain happens when to much is taken out of the band... So I don't see what is so abnormal!!! I see my doctor on a regular bases.. 1 elcee reacted to this
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted October 8, 2012 I say it's abnormal because general speaking, doctors consider reflux a warning sign of a band too tight or a slip. The fact it went away with an unfill leads one to believe it was in fact caused because of your band being too tight. Best wishes in whatever you decide to do. 3 ♕ajtexas♕, Maddysgram and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
Maddysgram 6,159 Posted October 8, 2012 You know I have been on so many diets in my 56yrs I can't even count. You lose 50lbs, you gain 70 lbs, I lose 100 gain 120. I would refuse any new fad diet. Can you live the rest of your life on a liquid diet, no. That means as soon as you stop, back comes the weight plus some. I agree with Mis73, you have the tool. Maybe it needs some tweaking, but it is something that can work. 3 DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!, ♕ajtexas♕ and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
missyjk79 9 Posted October 8, 2012 I too am 5 yrs out. I've had my band revised in 9/2011. I've gained back 50lbs since all my problems in the last 2yrs. It sucks. I don't have good restriction still. I have 7.4 cc. VERY FRUSTRATING. It's also frustrating to hear from my doc that they are finding that 4-5yrs out is when they (not just my doc) are finding people have issues. :-(
gigim 8 Posted October 8, 2012 Again, the tool starts to fail after 3-5 years... I have had my band(like many others) tweaked many times....I will try a partial liquid diet starting tomorrow along with a small fill, hoping it works along with exercise....thanks !!! elcee 3,341 Posted October 8, 2012 Gigi you are right. Mis you are not there yet so you probably don't realise it but there seems to be a point where it is difficult if not impossible to achieve the correct balance between having enough Fluid for restriction but not enough to cause reflux. It seems that most of the long term bandsters have had or are having an issue with this - Lellow, Jachut, myself and quite a lot of others ( I can't remember all the user names). I developed some reflux at the beginning of the year (out of the blue), ended up having a partial unfill and have since been refilled. I now feel literally no restriction except on rare occasions. I can easily eat things that previously I couldn't and I am struggling with hunger. Yes some of it may be in my head but the waking up hungry part certainly isn't.I am going back to my Dr at the end of the month and am hoping i will be able to get an effective fill but I will have to wait and see. The worst part is that 3 years ago when I was first banded there were a number of people that were talking about this issue.Quite a few of them were choosing to revise to the sleeve because of it ( I am not sure how that helps because as far as I am aware most sleevers have to routinely take an acid reducer).Obviously as a newly banded person I didn't want to hear about possible future problems. I'm not sure what the solution is, hopefully they come up with something. 3 gigim, karewpah and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
gigim 8 Posted October 8, 2012 I totally agree!!! I was to busy wanting the band and I did not want to hear about any complications... This morning I got a very small fill of .02cc, so we will see what happens. I truly hope I don't have acid reflux to the point that I need an unfill.. Anyone with the band after 3 or 4 years have Problems!!!! I'm not ready to give up yet.... I refuse to get anymore surgeries for weight loss... Good luck to all!!!! 1 Maddysgram reacted to this
