Lose Inches Or Lose Pounds? Which Do You Prefer?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on July 18 & although I've only lost 26 lbs....my clothes fit way looser. I'm noticing I'm shrinking in inches and not in pounds.

Can anyone relate?

Logically, I know I should prefer inches, but the truth is I prefer to lose pounds. The reason is completely illogical, too. If I lose inches but not pounds, I start getting moody because mentally I really need to see the scale go down in numbers. If I lose pounds but I don't notice lost inches, I really don't care because I'm so happy to see the numbers on the scale fall and I know the inches will come eventually.

I know, it's totally foolish if not backwards thinking on my part, but it's the honest answer.

It's understandable!

I prefer to see the numbers drop too but I admit it feels awesome when I can slide on work pants without unbuttoning them.

Theoretically we should be happier with inches. Inches are what take up the space, pounds are just a number on a scale that shows our relationship with gravity, but I think we all want that number to be as low as possible and we fixate on it.

Doctors fixate on them too! They want us to lose 10% of our weight....not 10% in inches

And I know we've all heard this but muscles weighs more than fat. Since you've probably increased your physical activity level, you are gaining muscles tissue which is more dense than fat. Great job for you though because it's lean muscle tissue that will help burn more fat even after you're done working out! Congratulations on the loss so far!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
