I had surgery 8/29/12. I haven't gotten a fill yet but so far I haven't been able to finish a full cup of food. I am able to eat larger bites (like pre band) though. Well today I was eating a piece of bread and it wouldn't go down, and I ended up throwing it up...well slime. GROSS. I figured it was too tough or something. Then tonight I was eating a piece of chicken and the same thing happened. I go for a fill Thur, I am just confused as to why it happened twice in one day when I have never had a problem with it before. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks! :D

The added stress on your stomach could have caused your band to tighten. I know for a lot of people, when they're just plain ol' stressed out, their band will be tighter. So when the stomach becomes irritated from having to force up food or the dreaded slime, that's bound to cause the band to affect the band as well. I hope that makes sense.

For starters, bread is a big offender with the band even pre-fills. Many people are not able to tolerate bread. I do ok with small bites of toast but bread causes me to be stuck. Once you have a stuck episode, it can cause inflamation and irritation causing it to be easy to have it happen again. Many people switch to liquids the rest of the day after having such an episode. I really think it is just the bread you ate. Definitely worth mentioning to the doctor on your next appt though.

You got a fill thursday? Did anyone tell you to stay on liquids then mushies after the fill? Your stomach can get irritated after a fill which is why your dr office should have told you this...definitely sounds like a stuck episode to me...as bandsters, bread is pretty much impossible so it's best to cut it out of your diet as soon as possible...many people do this per surgery to get used to the idea...chicken can be a problem if its dry...you should always do liquids for 24 hrs after having a serious stuck episode, and then take it easy from there

bread turns into a Gummy mess in your tummy and clogs the opening . On the rare occasion I have a few bites of bread, I take a small bite in between other foods so it mixes in. meat is hit and miss. Some people will tell you to coat your meats in sauces or gravies to keep them wet and make them easier to go down. If you take tiny bites and chew well, you shouldnt need to add those extra calories for sauces.

Thanks guys! I know bread gets stuck really easily but my dr said not to avoid bread unless it caused a problem. So I probably won't try it again for a while. And that makes since that I was Just swollen from the stuck bread.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
