:help: Hello all

I am having my Band on April 6th. I'm looking for any encouragement I can find...especially about the amount of pain afterwards.

:) To: Gail CB

Hi Gail, I was banded on Feb. 28 with very little pain. They gave me a pain pump that I hardly used at all. After the first night the pain was so little I only used pain medicine twice. I was going to exercise class in a week.

Thanks for all the replys. I am private pay so my most pain today was going to get a cashier's check for $14,500.00

I'm ready for the change but my husband keeps asking me if I'm sure I want to do this. Any ideas? How did other members treat you as you lost the weight? I'm sure it will be different just don't know what to expect.

Hey Gail, welcome to LBT! I think you'll find very differing stories about the pain levels. Most of which describe some discomfort from incisions in the first few days. The gas used during surgery to inflate the stomach, which makes room for the laproscopic tools and surgery, often causes some lingering problems but is usually gone within a week or two. I had a ventral hernia repair on my stomach at the same time, and that hurt far worse than any of the lapband incisions. I'm a big baby and I did fine. You will too. :)

I got banded on 03/24 and I had minor pain with the incisions, but I am having a hard time with the gas causing pains in my back and when I breath. Any suggestions?

I was banded on April 6th. Pain was very minimul. I need some help on swallowing. Lap Band doctor say I am having esphogeal spasms.

Other trouble is diahrrea...can't get it to stop. I am eleven days post-op. Does anyone have any suggestions for either one??

My other question is....is anyone hungry??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
