Recommended Posts

Thanks for that info guys ' date=' do u think I should wait until I heal 100% or just not go near it anymore like its really hard !![/quote']

I'm smoke free a little over a year and feel great. Haven't got my surgery yet. If you are already not smoking why not just quit? It's hard and it sucks, but its totally worth it!! I love smoking but I know it not good for me. I used the app by livestrong dare to quit. It's just like this forum but for people who are quitting smoking. Take a look at it. I know you can do girl!!!! Wish you the best!!:)

I grew up with a father that was a smoker. It caused him to have Burger's disease. It is a not so well known disease, but has caused him to loose both legs, he is fighting to keep his arms and has moved into his stomach and will eventually kill him. He quit smoking about 20 years ago and he is still paying for it everyday! I had no childhood because I was taking care of my dad. I would seriously reconsider smoking please! I have lived the nightmare of what smoking can do to a person!

Ok I will be the token smoker in The group. I am not a heavy smoker ..maybe 6-10 daily. I am well aware of the risks to my health Because I smoke. That said I discussed it with my dr and while he of course advised me to quit said I shouldn't have any complications with my band caused by smoking. I healed fine and resumed life as normal. I have changed my life because of my band and quitting smoking is on the list to do... And I will when I am ready

I find it odd that someone would try so hard to improve their health via Lap Band...all while completely negating those improvements by smoking. Might as well live in bacon cheeseburger smoothies while you're at it.

I am not going to judge anyone because I smoked for 15 years and I quit just over 15 years ago. I still miss it but will not go back to it because I have kids. I will say, though, that my surgeon WILL NOT (in caps because he is very adamant about it) give anyone who smokes a Lap Band.

That's a smart surgeon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
