Getting My Band Next Thursday! :-)

Recommended Posts

OK. So, I haven't been on here in a while because I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get my band. Let's see...I started the process back in May of 2012 and now it is October of 2012...So, as you can see I have gone a while being in limbo as to getting banded--not because of me, but because of my insurance. So! Now, I finally was approved for insurance, and we are on GO! I have been doing well on my two week pre-op diet, although I haven't lost a huge amount of weight from it. I think it is because I was previously doing calorie and portion counting and control in preparation for after surgery...but now, with the pre-op diet, I am doing a low carb diet as prescribed by my doctor. So, I am really eating more calories than I have done in many months. I am still loosing some but not at the rate I would normally do when doing low carb.

So, my surgery date is set for Thursday. It is an easy date to remember 10-11-12! I am asking you all pray for me as I go through this. I am on two different cholesterol meds, a heart med, and blood pressure meds. So, I am really excited and looking forward to this surgery and my new way of eating and my new life. But at the same time, I am nervous too.

Ok! Well, that is my story as of now! If you all want to check out my little Journey Blog you can!

A World Without Weight

I will check in again REALLLLL sooon!!!!

I will be 6 days after you. Best of luck and may God's peace and protection cover you during your entire surgery and aftercare.

P.S. How were you able to lose all that weight before surgery. Nice job girl...I'm proud of you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
