Hey everyone! I am going in at 11am on 10/5/12 to get banded. I've never had surgery before, so please fill me in on what to expect with the whole experience, and any tips. I really appreciate it! LBT has been a lifesaver thus far!

stay positive, stay off the scale for the first few weeks and follow your doctors instructions to the letter. ((also sip sip sip and rest rest rest)) and when able, walk about as much as you can. congrats on your surgery.

Hey guys, good news... I'm alive! I cried a few times before the surgery because I was so scared. When they were ready to take me into the waiting area (preop) they checked my vitals, gave me a stylish gown, hair cap, and slippers. I changed and shortly after the RN came bye to insert my IV (in the arm). I waited about an hour for the doctors to finish the previous patients surgery. When the patient was out, the doctors came in to ask me a few questions (what are you here for, is your name spelt correctly on your wristband, etc.) they then asked me to get up and walk into the operating room.

I was asked to lye down on the operating table and they put arm and leg straps. They also put "leg massagers" on me. At that time, the anestisioligist <-sp? told me to take deep breaths in. I fell asleep. When I woke up, I was in the recovery room. I felt instantly nautious and threw up twice. I gagged for almost an hour. They gave me nausea medication and it made me feel a little better.

My stomache had a very bloated feeling, but no pain. My throat felt SO sore! About an hour later my upper shoulder towards my neck started to feel a tiny bit sore. The RN massaged it, and I fell asleep for about an hour and a half. I woke up when I heard the RN call my name. She asked me if I felt well enough to get dressed. I told her yes, and changed by myself. I noticed that my belly was huge (like a semi inflated balloon) and it was completely numb when I touched it (pulling up my pants). I walked a few steps and they had to push me in a wheelchair to my car since I was still so groggy. I made it home fine, took a gas x strip (a tip I heard on here frequently) and walked around for a while.

I used the restroom and everything came out fine (tmi, but it smelt a little off, and a tip: wipingyour cookie back to front was much more comfortable then the front to back. I also used a wipie). I lyedown in bed on my comfy pillow-one of those bed rest pillows that have the arm rests and high back) and watched TV. I feel great! I'm taking small sips of Water, as I took a semi medium swig and it made me gag. Now I'm just chilling watching TV and have a back massager(which I highly reccoment getting from Target or Walmart for about $6!) life is good, I feel great, and I am walking around my house every now and then.

Sorry to ramble, but I hope this helps someone in the preop stage that is wondering exactly how things went down like I did. Feel free to ask me any questions! There is no such thing as TMI in my book (as you can obviously tell). Us being here for each other is the BEST sense of support! <3

Aww sorry u got sick. I was fine when I woke up but that night was hell with the nausea and sweats.

My surgery was quick too. They really trick u with that anesthesia. They said "here just breathe into this oxygen mask while we get ready", so I put it on and there was a weird taste or something so I said " hey r u sure this isn't the anesthesiaaaaaasa.".....OUT!! smart of them though cuz I fully intended to keep saying "just wait one second please" while I fretted about possible death.

Hahaha! I feel the same way about being tricked! It was totally for the better though! How long ago were you banded?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
