I am always scare of surgery, I hate being put to sleep. However, I knew I needed this so I tried no to dwell on the what if's. I have tried diets over and over with no long term success, so the benefits out weighed the risk. I felt confident in my surgeon and I was going to a top rated hosptial to have it done.

I think everyone gets cold feet to an extent before hand. Take a deep breath and weigh the pros and cons it you have more pro, let it go and move forward with surgery; if you have more con you likely are ready for surgery.

Good luck to you!!

Yup! I am pretty sure we all have second guessed ourselves. Its pretty normal to have these kinds of feelings. Thats just it, how many more times do we have to suffer dieting and failing before we just do it!

If I had not went through with this, I am pretty sure I would of been 400 lbs, no seriously....

You are making the right choice if you have made it here :)

I sure did.....

Had surgery on Friday and even on that day I kept saying I only need to lose 50lbs, I should just walk out and try to do it on my own. But then I remembered, I started years ago by saying, oh I only need to lose 10lbs, then 20 and went up to I only need to lose 77lbs....and I did at one point managed to lose 42 out of that 77, but it crept up again.

That's when I said, I need to go through with it, I need a little extra help...my lil girlfriend Cassie (my band) to keep me in check....

So having second thoughts is normal, but try to remember n keep in mind why you wanted this in the first place....possibly cause we are some of the individuals who need that extra "help"....re-visit how beneficial it will be to your health and self-esteem.

Good luck with whatever you decide....it's all about you!!!

We all have second thoughts. Once you go through the pre opt and post op you will be glad you did it. I met a woman who had the second thought and I kept encouraging her and now she is 30 pounds down and is so happy she did. She is on her post liquid diet and she is amazed that she is not hungry. I think of this tool as a appetite suppresant which is better than the drugs and over the counter pills. You still have to eat like you are on a diet, but it is healthy foods and high protien. I started on May 22nd and now I am 44lbs down. Just do it and you will be happy to see your dieting will go further than the 40 pounds and will be easier to keep it off.

of course we second guess ourselves. I did so many times and unfortunately it wasn't until I was over 300 pounds that I finally stopped and realized I couldn't do it by myself. Just make sure you do your research and understand the good, the bad and the ugly about being banded. Good luck.

I just posted the same thing so you are definitely NOT alone....we didn't get overweight alone and we shouldn't lose weight alone. Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
